IMO the population is way down. I haven't heard as many and damn sure not seen as many.
Macon- No litter. 1st year hunted the property. 360 acres. Had 3 gobs on camera prior to season but not one gobble on the property all year. I've heard 3-4 diff birds off the property and called up 2 jakes (possibly same one on 2 different days)
Butler-No litter. 1st year hunted. 160 acres. Nothing heard on property. Heard 2 birds off property. Called up a jake.
Lowndes- No litter. My hunting club with approx. 6000 acres. I Haven't hunted as much due to distance but the harvest is down by about 60% the past 2 years compared to the previous 5. It gets hunted EVERY DAY of the season by somebody. Not as much gobbling as in the past.

I hate to get off course here a little bit but I think there are lots of reasons turkeys are in a decline and litter may or may not be responsible. I know people have been using chicken litter for decades or maybe centuries. I think an increase in the coyote population,a decrease in coon hunters, everybody feeding corn which has increased the coon population considerably. Way more turkey hunters than even say 5 years ago. Lots of hunters using bait these days and the legalization of decoys has made turkeys easier to kill. Hawk and owl populations have risen dramatically and the massive change in timber practices with thousands and thousands of acres of hardwoods being clear cut all have to have some effect. Plus we just have more very good turkey hunters than we did a few years ago. Just my 2 cents.

Lawrence Co - Way Down Marion Co - Way Down Since the increase in the prices of corn and beans crop land that for years was in CRP in now back in crops. The increase in the cost of comercial fertilize has increased the use of chicken litter by farmers 10 fold. There is no doubt in my mind that turkey numbers started to decline after the heavy use of chicken litter in North Alabama and Southern Tennessee.

I can only speak to Skyline. Way down from years past... The only chicken litter is minimal around the edges.

You guys keep it coming. I'll try to compile the numbers on Wednesday, so get those answers in noW. The study will be published this summer in the prestigious "Scientific Journal of PCP Enterprises.". Gonna have to bump a PHD to make room, but he'll get over it.

Never heard of that. Interesting. Please post a thread about it in the Serious or QDM forums when you get the results.
