My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

The biggest thing in my opinion is more and more people competing for places to hunt. It's still a ton of fun but finding an affordable place to have a quality experience gets harder and harder. Finding the sign in the woods and trying to figure it out is very cool. I enjoy the things around the sport, planting the fields, walking the land, fooling with cameras immensely.

As I have gotten older I no longer hate deer like I used to. Hate being the need to kill them. I still will take a couple for the freezer each season but to me the most enjoyable part of season is to be with my friends around the fire pit in the evening and cooking a good meal with them.

I no longer hunt from climbing stands since my last back surgery left me with a "foot drop" and my right leg and foot lack the dexterity to use a climber, but I sure used to love sitting in a tree, lightly swaying in the breeze, and watch the sun come up. I have several shooting houses that I made sure the windows faced the field as well as east. To me a sunrise is one of the most uplifting things I can watch.

When I started hunting I was like Skinny said, from a simple spot. I dont think I got caught up "keeping up with the Jones'" as much as I had been doing it longer and accumulated more things, but in the last few years I find myself sitting in one stand the most. It has the best view for sunrise. Several times I will be there watching and listening to the world come to life around be and realize there a couple of deer in the field.

Being outside and with friends is where I find the most peace. And that is more important to me than killing a B&C.

Other than not sitting in a potentially rotten piece of wood, I hunt just like you described, just with a safer, modern stand. And I always will as long as I'm healthy enough.

You hunt you're way, I'll hunt mine. It all tastes the same at the dinner table.

nothing than relaxing than sitting in a stand with a little mist over a field watching the sun rise. Isn't GODS creation wonderful.

It's what you make of it. If it's a competition you made it that way. If you are able to relax and just breath in the air and listen to the woods, you made it that way too. I spent all day today on the tractor cleaning some new spots up. I enjoy that just as much as sitting in a tree. Keep it simple and enjoy yourself.

You haven't been here long enough to have enjoyed some of Brody Joe's writings from years back, but that man could paint pictures on your soul! I'd HIGHLY recommend reading "Here Where We Belong-A Collection of Outdoor Memories" by Otha Barham...I believe he and ol' Brody Joe are kindred spirits. This is probably one of the most pleasant and uplifting books I've ever read, and is even suitable for very young readers. Give it a read, you won't be sorry.

I agree with 3FFarms it is about measuring your manhood to all your friend. In fact I was caught up in that for a long time and found myself just fishing all the time and practically quit hunting. In the past few years I have picked it up again and my whole outlook is different, it is about each hunt not each Killed monster buck! Always remember the only thing that can ruin a Hunting or Fishing trip is EXPECTATIONS!!

Its like everything else - a $$$ money game. Generally, if you drop the most $$$ you get the big deer, etc. Same ol chit different day. Personally, I don't give a crap about that rat race.

I like to get out and hunt/fish/be outdoors with my family and friends making memories and enjoying the beautiful amazing world that God gave us.

Let's go hunting,

Otha is a wonderful man. My heart ached when his lovely wife died a couple of years ago.
