I find this whole thread amusing. One reason is even considering carrying only a hand gun, smh. I'd hate to see you prolong a track, shoot holes in someones deer or worse lose a kids first or someones deer of a life time. TOTE A LONG GUN !
Look at the Ruger Compact in .308 or 7-08. Or perhaps even better would be their Ranch Rifle in 300 Black Out ( 16" barrel I think). No matter what rifle I toted ( something short and light) it would be topped with a Leuplold VX-R 1-4. Duplex reticle and the red dot would be fine in low light or night.
Do carry on, this is entertaining.
