Well, naturally, I have to be different. Given the equation of 5 yr. cut over means there is some pretty good regrowth with stumps. 5 years the pine stumps should be pretty rotten. Hardwoods could be with you a while. For me, if I had a choice of ANYTHING dozer related, I would go over it with just a blade piling up the debris. Burn it and push the rest off. Then, come back with a ripper. The ripper would serve 2 purposes: Get the roots up and break the hard pan. Usually, the root rake won't get to the hard pan. I built a ripper for my dozer that does well. It's not hydraulic and I have to take it on and off moving the dozer but it works. My 2nd choice would be the root rake.
