Or was it a 2 1/2" shell?

Or 93 yards? He is jacking with you bud wink

Couple years ago I had been working a bird for about an hour. My time was running out as I had to leave to meet a buddy to head down to his club that afternoon. So, I got up and slowly started walking in the turkeys direction. I was in some open hardwoods and caught a glimmer up ahead about 70 yards. I stopped and slowly shouldered my gun. He was walking from my left to right. I picked an opening and when he stepped in it I shot. Bang flop. I got to him and he was laying there staring at me so I had to step on his neck. I didn't compensate for the distance and had body shot him. I never leave a hull on public land and walked back to get it. 64 long steps. TSS #8's.

I bang flopped one in Kansas with Squeaky as my witness at 54 yds. I only shot him that far because 1) his hen had walked up beside me within 10 yds. 2) I knew he was within range. smile

I killed one at 82 steps with a single TSS #2 in my sons RedRyder.

I don't know why public birds are a little more spooky?

I killed one last year at 62 yards, and probably the last 15 I have killed with it

You can do this ^^^^^ with a light, short barreled 20 at increased distances.

I've killed 55 turkeys with tss, with 49 of them being one shot kills. A couple flopped more than I liked so I shot them again. One was completely disabled when I got to him, but his head was up, so I backed off and shot him with a dove load. I don't do hand to hand combat.

The other 2 were wounded due to hunter incompetence. Both were close shots that I simply didn't execute. I learned from my grandfather to always have an excuse, so I have a good excuse for both, but the fact is I just made poor shots and put a few pellets into the body without getting any into the head/neck area.

The tss allowed me to recover and kill both turkeys when I would have no chance of doing that with lead. Both would have wound up coyote food. I was able to kill one of them flying erratically away at 67 yards. The other had a broke wing and he was about 75 yards when I was able to get a finishing shot.

Tss gives you a much better margin for error than anything else, and I need a margin for error.

I had a string of 43 straight turkeys without a miss, using TSS. Most were with a 28 ga, and the miss that broke the string was a bad shot with the 28.

Since I've been shooting TSS the last 10 years it's been nice not worrying about running to the turkey and putting a boot on his neck. The ones that don't flop at all are especially enjoyable.
