Ok, the black tape is a new one for me. A guy I know roosted some on corp land but they flew down on private. He shot one and as he was tagging it in the bushes he looked up to see a man with a shotgun and very deliberate walk closing in across the field. My buddy is fat and old so he jumped in the creek bed and ran as far as he could then climbed in a blow down and taped the flopping birds wings with his tagging tape. The guy came looking for him but he laid still as a mature whitetail till things cooled off. A buddy and I were hunting a new wma in Georgia one time. Back before smart phones. I had hunted it once before, but hadn't explored it much and the map was very very vague. Well about 9 that morning it had just stopped drizzling and I struck up a was of birds in the distance. On the way to them, we crossed an old barb wire fence. I didn't think twice about it, there weren't any signs and I was pretty sure we were a fe hundred yards inside the wma based on the crappy map. Well we get to a section of fresh burn pines, leading to a burnt sage field. Eased up on it and dropped to our bellies in the wide open burnt pines, when we saw birds. I started cutting to those hens, and they fired up and took off on a jog straight to us. 5 gobblers were in full strut 30-40 yds behind them coming our way. Those hens got all around us, and about the time the gobblers got in range, they started putting. We pulled up and emptied our guns (only ended up killing 3). Well one of them wasn't hit that hot and had to shoot him 2 more times. Standing there, trying to figure out how we had just wasted $60 in shells for 3 birds, I hear a 4 wheeler crank. Looked at my buddy and said time to go. He was slow to react, so I grabbed two birds and ran for it. Just about made it to the woods when I saw a 4 wheeler come out of the trees on the other side. Kicked it in to higher gear and spent the next hour making a huge loop back to the truck. Even went so far as to drop a bunch of feathers, blood and shells at one spot for a fake crime scene. Well we finally emerge from the thicket, and there's this sob sitting on his atv at my truck. I'm pretty sure it's over at this point. He stands up and asks why the hell we were running? I decided to be straight up with him and just told him that we were new to this wma and didn't realize we had gotten on to his land til we heard him coming. He starts laughing his ass off and said the wma line was another 200 yards on the other side of the field, he's got bad knees so the warden let's him drive his atv back in there. Said he just heard our miniature dove shoot going on and wanted to come see what we had killed. My buddy was some kind of pissed that I just mad him sprint through the woods for an hour for no reason Lol, awesome story.

..you always stomp out gobbler tracks, even on ground you have sole permission on. .... You have made a fake kill sight, cleaned out around base of tree, empty hull in rd, neck feathers around 30 yds from tree. .... You have placed a feather under someone else's windshield wiper That you Jerry?

If you and a buddy empty a 100 dollars worth of shells and still wonder how that bird is alive.
Do you want to hear him gobble, or do you want to kill him.

Every time you hear a crow you stop wat you're doing and listen for a gobble no matter wat time of year it is Yep, and no matter where you are! Yep....MrsGomer actually called me out on this the other day. we were walking into Target in ttown and a crow sounded off from one of the light poles in the parking lot and I froze for a second. She turned around and just rolled her eyes and said "I really don't think you're gonna hear any turkeys in the Target parking lot." Just habit

Just habit I had a buddy a couple of years ago see my wife and I walk into a restaurant, probably about the first week of March, so I really had it on my brain. Clearly so did he, because for some reason he had a mouth call in his pocket. I didn't know he was there but proceeded to get around a corner and quietly yelp and purr. I kept telling my wife "shhh, did you hear that?". She thought I was crazy. Hell I started thinking I was crazy

Every time you hear a crow you stop wat you're doing and listen for a gobble no matter wat time of year it is I do that every single morning in my neighborhood and it is 10 miles to the nearest place you might reasonably expect to hear one.

My neighbor was a straight up turkey killer and would shoot in your direction if he thought you were trying to call one off his property. When I would kill one I would pull a breast feather and leave it in his lock just to let him know that one died. I kinda miss him.

"You might be a turkey hunter if you crossed a barbwire fence and not thought twice about it." Exactly!! You might be a turkey hunter if you drive 1 hour one way to hunt for an hour or less then drive back. You might be a turkey hunter if you slide into your 10 o'clock chemistry class at 11 o'clock, still dressed in camo, dried blood on your hands, smile and do the chin up salute to the professor who is also a turkey hunter. You might be a turkey hunter if you think nothing of practicing a new mouth call on University Blvd at UAB between classes. You might be a turkey hunter if you teach you wife to stomp out every turkey track and strut mark you see. Dr. B
