Well, if it is a check in station you have to visit in person, I'm against it and I don't break the law, nor plan on doing so. I hunt about three minutes from my house. The processor I use is about 10-15 minutes from my house. If they want to put a check in station in between my house and the processor then I'll check it in. Otherwise, it's going to be a pain in the rear.

I did it. I don't think check stations are feasible, they can't even afford to have enough game wardens in the state much less build, maintain, and staff check stations for folks not hunting public land.

I got it and I filled it out. I'm for it as I'm use to doing it in other states. It's no big deal and easy to do. My main reason for supporting is to reduce the amount of poaching in this state. I do believe it's a problem, however I'm not sure how big of a problem. If the state implements a mandatory tagging and check in system there should also be a law that follows with big teeth that will bite hard if caught. I think the information gained for our state biologist would be beneficial and actually put solid numbers to our harvest rather than estimates.

The Midwest states do not play when it comes to poaching and the fines and punishment send that message clearly.

I understand what you`re saying but.....

I would be willing to bet I have had to deal with more poachers over the last 10 years on one single piece of property than any member on this entire site. the problem has nothing to with reporting the "harvest" and the solution damn sure isn`t mandatory report of harvest. it has everything to do with being understaffed. from my understanding, Baldwin county is the largest county in the state of Alabama and with only 3 or 4 wardens. ain`t no way they can cover that much area successfully. the gw`s in Baldwin county know exactly who is doing the poaching on my lease and surrounding properties but it would be a 24 hour a day job from September to march to put and end to it. these bastards are out of control. hell they are even poaching on the nature preserve on a daily basis. if I win the lottery, I will put an end to it. yes I am that fed up with it.

I answered their survey.
I am not opposed to having checking stations, BUT they are going to have to be set up to where they are relatively convenient.
I will not want to drive 30 miles away so somebody can look in the back of my truck and go "yep...that's a dead deer".
I know a lot of folks who kill deer on their own land, process, prepare and consume the same deer on that same land.
How will it work out for those folks?
I don't think we need more government involvement... I think we need better enforcement of the laws that are already in place. A better tag system is needed. Anybody can go online and re-print a copy of their hunting license and have three blanks to write three more deer down.
The system it's self is broken, the last thing we need is more "broken" rules.

Good gosh. It is 2016. We do not need a physical check-in station for anything these days. That's from the 1940s. Even states that have had check stations for decades -- Wisconsin is the latest -- have done away with them.

Cell phones, Internet or telephone. Period.

EHH I understand what you are saying. However, it will give our GW another tool to help reduce the poaching. I simply like the tool Kentucky offers. I can simply look up people that I know that have killed a deer in the area I hunt. If they have reported the deer their info will show up in the system. Helps hunters police others and also helps mister green jeans as well. A lot of people like to show off their kills these days with all the social media and such. It's pretty easy to get caught if you are being stupid in states with a tagging system. As I said the fine and punishment needs to have teeth.

KY system link for checking who is reporting and not.

From what ive been told, mandatory check-in will begin next year. You can report your harvest by phone, online, or by mail.
A mandatory reporting system is the only way to get close to calculating an accurate harvest total for the year.

I didn't get the email. Is there any way to fill out the survey if you didn't get an email?

My feelings are hurt. I didn't get the survey. Maybe because they noted that my email address has been checked ng in deer voluntarily and they know my stance. I don't think a check station will happen but phone/internet check in shouldn't be a problem for anyone. Remember, these deer aren't yours, the sates, or any ones. They are God's and we are to be good stewards of the land.
