I stopped by Charles shop today in West Blocton and met him and visited a little while. Let me tell you fellas something...Charles is good folk! I get around a little here and there looking at work done by different taxidermists and I must say that Charles work is as good as anyone's that I have seen. If I was going to have a shoulder mount done on a whitetail deer it wouldn't go anywhere but to Artistic Whitetails if I had a choice in the matter. Charles, it was a pleasure meeting you today and I hope to see you again real soon!

No, he did not tell me when he'd take mounts again but I really didn't ask. He's got a ton of work to do. That says a lot about the quality of his work!

I took one to him Monday of this week and he said then that he was gonna have to cut 'em off soon or else they'd run into next season.

I took him one last month and was so impressed by his work that we discussed him working on a shoulder mount I already have (doing an antler swap) that was an absolute hack job by another taxidermist.

Lefthorn, I've looked at lots of taxidermists work. After Charles, I'd recommend Randy Bell in Pickens County or Ron Bettendorf in Lamar County. I can get you contact info on either if you need it.

Cuz, it was great meeting you today. I truly enjoyed our time together and hope that maybe we may can work together at some point. You are welcome at my place anytime. To the matter of me turning away mounts, yes, this is true. I'm sorry if this posting starts to ramble, it's been a long day and I've been in the scotch. Berry, I apologize for not being there today when you came by. I had to go to Ritches in Greensboro to pick up some stuff. What the lady told you was correct. Every taxidermist I've ever known suffer from massive egos and have superman syndrome. Most fall into the trap of taking on more work than can be completed in the quoted timeline givin to the client. Im guilty of it myself! I'm not Sigmond Freud and don't understand the reason, but it happens. This usually leads to longer than quoted turnaround, sub par work and upset clients. I'm trying not to fall into that trap. I already have 30 more heads than I think I can get done before next gun season rolls around. It's certainly not a work ethic issue as I'm spending 15+ hours a day trying to keep up. But there's only so far you can push your body, mentally and physically before things start to break down. That said, if I've mounted deer for you in the past or you already have one in here this season and you want to bring another, get in touch and maybe we can work something out. Currently, I have a handful of people who are probably not very happy at the moment. What I'm dealing with right now is unreal. I'm not bitching, I'm very blessed to have so many people wanting me to work on their trophys. I feel horrible turning folks away, but I value my reputation and my mount quality over the money. To all those who have trusted me by bringing their deer, THANK YOU! It's very much appreciated and I will try and do each one the justice it deserves. I'm trying to get some help in here to free up some of my time. As any other business owner knows, the saying good help is hard to find is very true. Most who want to do this type of work don't last very long once they figure out what all is involved. I'm trying though to find someone who will work out. Hopefully, that special person is out there somewhere and fate will bring us together. As of right now though, I'm very uncomfortable accepting any more shoulder mounts until I get this figured out. I've included a few pics just to show what I'm dealing with. 3 days worth of European mounts. 3 weeks worth of shoulder mounts on this rack. I posted the pics so you guys that I've turned away understand my situation. I just have more than I can handle or complete in a years time. I don't want to be "that guy who has had my gamehead for over a year" Again, thanks to everyone who have brought me their trophy. Charles, AWT

Apparently you're great at what you do! I hope my comment didn't come off as me sounding upset or trying to bad mouth you or anything of that nature, because I honestly wasn't. All of your mounts look awesome! I don't have anything there now, and you've never mounted anything for me before. If I get another buck worth mounting I will be making another visit to see ya! Just from what you said in your post alone shows me that your good people! Thanks a lot!

Charles is great. Been to his shop and met him. I was astounded at the amount of work he had to do. He does great work. It was January, 2015, when my daughter and I were there. As busy as he was, he took time to talk with us and show us around. Hope I can give him more business in the future.

Charles, I applaud your decision to stop taking in heads this season. I know first hand that turning down business isn't easy but it's something that has to be done some times. The Good Lord has blessed you with a talent that most don't possess. I know we talked about you finding someone to help. I know how hard good help is to find. You probably deal with so many people that you don't remember the conversation we had when I picked up my daughters deer last year but I guarantee you there is a person in your area that's very creative and talented that is looking for an outlet to use their creativity and artistic talent to get paid. I don't know how to suggest to you to find that person. There is a woman that I go to church with that would be absolutely perfect for the job but I think the 2 1/2 hour commute might be a problem.
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

Thanks Fur. I remember the conversation very well actually. It's funny you mention the woman at church. I was telling Ben2 the other night that I was seriously thinking of trying to find a female to bring in as a partner. I'm not looking for an employee, I'm looking for talent willing to learn that will share and grow the business, without dealing with egos, having to hunt all the time, ect, ect. The few female taxis out there are very, very good at what they do.
