This entire conversation is disgusting! I have no respect for a person that would shoot a dog. You think a dog is messing up you hunting? There are 100 coyotes running around on your lease (not your private property)and you think a domestic dog is hurting your hunting? Probably from the its brown its down thought process. Liberal mindset. Nobody should HAVE to shoot your damn dog. If it's on your property and doesn't leave it, no dogs die. That's called personal accountability. If you don't control your dog, you are the reason for anything and everything that happens to it, and to anyone your dog impacts.

Ugh..nothing liberal about me. Its called being a decent human being. As hard as this may be for people to understand sometimes animals lose containment. So by your well thought out rational I should be able to shoot any horse, cow, or any animal that I choose because it bothers my hunting.

I'm sorta a softy, just can't find it in me to shoot a dadgum dog. Plus, I don't want to shoot right where I'm hunting anyway (except at bucks). But if you're gonna do it, hide the evidence and don't mention it to anybody.

Ugh..nothing liberal about me. Its call being a decent human being. Nothing decent about sending an innocent dog to its death on purpose. How many folks you reckon have had wrecks and have been injured or killed trying to avoid free range pets? Cute little collared dog carcasses scattered all along the highway. Yeah, that's decent as hell.

The key phrase in your rebuttal is "on Purpose" Those animals that are killed on the road were not "on Purpose". If a dog is aggressive then shoot it. But a dog walking through the woods. Really?

The key phrase in your rebuttal is "on Purpose" Those animals that are killed on the road were not "on Purpose". If a dog is aggressive then shoot it. But a dog walking through the woods. Really? How do you know which ones walking through the woods are aggressive and which are not. I hunt with 4 yr old twins most times. They love dogs and our dog. I don't want any dog I don't know on my property. Have I shot them all no, I caught 2 hound dogs opening day about 10 yrs ago, running deer all around the field I was gonna hunt. I caught em so the would not mess up anyone else aroynd us, then spent the afternoon driving around stopping at stores and looking for the owner. I finally found his house, pulled up walked to the porch where several folks were sitting. I said I got 2 of your dog's in the truck, his response was well let em out. I let em out then walked back to truck thinking how grateful I would have been if someone brought my dog back but he could care less. I caught 7 beagles one time drove all over found the hunters trucks and the lazy ×××× would not come out of the woods to get them. He sent his son about 9 up to the rd and he said daddy said just let em back out. I said tell your daddy I won't catch his dogs again, he will just be able to stop by and pick em up if he wants the collars back. I have kept and fed up and given away 3 dogs hunters dropped on the county rd after the season ended over the years. I will say I have caught and cared for probably 20 dogs, the dog I have now was found at the farm. But there have been several that I have had continual problems with who did not get rehabilitated after most reasonable efforts were made to solve the issue. I like dogs, I don't like people who act like there dog can do whatever and it is not the responsibility to take care of them or their behavior. At the end of the day no one should have to deal with someone else's animal on a regular basis, if they wanted dogs on their land they could get their own dogs.

speaking of containment, my black mouth cur broke her cable the other day and ran after a farm truck that had heelers in the bed, barking at her. now, i had just checked the cable; didn't see any bad spots, but i obviously missed one. my fault. as soon as she saw me in the yard, she came running. now, what if she had gone across the road, into a pasture, and then on to someone's lease, where a butthole in a tree stand shoots her. for a single failure by me to catch a frayed/twisted spot on a 40-foot cable. how can the butthole possibly justify that? some of you guys are way more mouth than brain ...

I was sitting in a stand one morning and a dog (lab) came sniffing thru the woods. I didn't see him at first and was getting a little excited because I knew that this had to be the deer that I had on camera. Well, it was this damn dog! I thought about putting him out of MY misery. He sniffed around for a few minutes and came right under the tree I was in. He looked up in the tree and saw me sitting there looking at him. He circled about three times and layed down! I left him alone and he stayed there until I came down the tree. As I got closer to the ground he seemed to be excited to see me, so when I hit the ground, I gave him a pat on the head and told him to come on, and we walked to my truck. The tag on his collar had a phone number so I gave the owner a call and told them where their dog was and what had happened. She told me where she lived just a half mile away so I took him home. The dogs owner was an older lady, and the dog belonged to her husband who was no longer with us. They had been hunting buddies and the dog used to lay near him while he hunted and would track his game for him after he made his shot. With this being said... If I had shot the dog, nobody would have known. I did see the dog a couple more times that season, but just told him to go home... and he did.

I hate shooting dogs and will and do give them multiple chances. I have shot very few where I gave the owner multiple chances.

Wrong! There are currently no laws that a dog owner can break by letting his dogs get on a lease that he has no access to. There are no repercussions or penalties for him. Sinking to their level doesn't make anyone a better person. In my county, the outlaws were so bad that running deer with dogs is now illegal. There are legal steps that can be taken. Becoming what you hate isn't positive IMHO. I agree. I don't condone shooting dogs for any reason other than they are being aggressive. I firmly and strongly believe that a man has a right to have no dogs on his property if that's what he wants. The go to hell attitude of a large percentage (not all of them mind you), will eventually get it shut down. MTeague's brother was on here a few weeks ago bragging about getting on other peoples land and one club 7 miles from his killing a big buck in front of his dogs. He's part of the problem. Are you sure? I believe you've got him confused with someone else Maybe so. If so I apologize to him.

It does not matter is a 1000 acre piece of land has a million wild coyotes on it. That is irrelevant to the conversation. If a man leases a piece of property to still hunt without interruption from dogs then he needs to be afforded that right. He doesn't need dogs running under his stand that were turned loose by his outlaw neighbors, and then told to kiss their ass when he tried to talk to them about it. There is no such law stating that a dog can trespass but there damn sure should be.
