So maybe y'all remember my story I posted last weekend where I killed the hog on the way to the stand. Well today after school me and my dad decided to go hunting b/c the rut seems to be in full swing this week. So out of nowhere I decide to hunt the same field I hunted last weekend.
As I was walking to my stand, I was hoping there wasn't any deer in the field yet because it was already about 4:30. So I walk up that little hill and look to the right to where my shooting house is and spot some movement on the field about 30 yards from me, I look closer and see a buck standing there staring at me fixing to bust me. All I could see was his head and his neck. I decided before gun season started to start shooting everything in either the head or the neck to not waste as much meat, so I was perfectly fine. I raise my fun, flip the safety off aim dead center of his throat patch and squeeze the trigger. The buck immediately fell backwards and was dead.
I will send a picture to beadlescomb and maybe he could post it for me.
We scored the buck at the skinning shed and he had a 17 1/2" inside spread and both of his main beams were around 20" long. The buck was definitely in full rut, he had a huge neck and smelled terrible! Time to hit the woods boys!

Congrats on your kill look forward to seeing the pics! It's always fun to shoot one off the ground like that. Head and neck shots can go bad wrong imo, not a lot of marain for error. Best of luck the rest of the year. I've seen bad things happen with head shots. Seen two that had there bottom jaw blown off. Luckily they were killed before they starved

I don't head shoot, I do neck shoot but at the base of the neck. I've only had one out of around 20 deer take a single step. that buck took 10 or 12. An accubond in the neck does the trick. Congrats young man, that looks like a mature buck. It had almost no neck !
