I think it's a very admirable accomplishment to kill a buck like that with primitive gear, especially gear you made yourself.

now the bow wasn't made by me, it's a G&L recurve. Custom yes, primative no. Only primative part was the arrow. Fletch was natural turkey, head was obsidian with real deer sinew wrapping.
the jump from normal trad gear to handmade arras and stone points really isn't a big deal, anybody on here could do it. The jump from a compound to trad gear is a whole LOT bigger jump..it is a LOT harder to kill deer with a trad bow than any wore out, old compound. The range just isn;t there with trad gear.
the stone points made of good strong materials are every bit as deadly as any steel point ever made. Actually I think they penetrate better than steel, thats been my experience on hogs anyway. Obsidian is NOT the best material for hunting points, too brittle(like glass) and will break on contact with any bone. Raw Texas cherts make the best heads, and usually what I use.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....
