GSDowner, I made a shot I was comfortable with. I've killed hundreds of deer. I don't need to talk shot placement. I hit the deer about 2" from where I was aiming at 200 yards. Only problem was it was 2" low and 2" left. I made more effort to get this deer than most ever make, and due to persistence and help from Mike the deer was recovered. What else is expected?
Congrats on the number of deer you have killed, but bottom line is you made a poor shot and by your own admittance, the only reason you found this deer was because of the dog. What would have happened if Idahomike was busy on another track or just to darn tired to come help? Odds are the deer would not have been recovered. Shooting a deer in the ass or top back spine at 200 yards is not a good idea, sure you will kill a few, but others will limp off to die and never be found.
I understand that you are an experienced hunter, but I can not for the life of me understand you defending such a shot on a forum where many look up to you because of your job and position. Just think of all the deer that will be shot in the ass and lost because of you.
And don't even get me started on this was not the deer you thought it was, because that is a whole 'nother story and mistake on your part.
