The Pea River has swollen and overflowed it's banks, forcing several people to evacuate. EMA officials say the current water level is over 38 feet and they predict levels could reach 43.5 feet, which is more than 13 feet over flood stage. This would it the largest flooding event in Elba's history, rivaling the historic 1929 flood. A Red Cross shelter has been established at Elba Elementary School for families displaced by the flood waters. Problems in Covington too where people told to avoid roads until further notice.

The Coffee County Sheriff reports six people were in a car on Highway 107 near the Coffee-Dale County line, when flood waters overran their car. Authorities say a man was a able to save three of his children, but his wife and their five-year-old daughter were swept away by flood waters. AS OF NINE O'CLOCK THIS MORNING..., "HIGH WATER" COVERS THE BOAT RAMP AND SEVERAL STRUCTURES AT ROBERT FOWLER PARK. THE READING WAS 23-FEET..., FIVE FEET ABOVE FLOOD STAGE.
