I enjoy watching more than killing, lazier than I was 20 years ago. If I'm gonna kill one it will be worth the drag out. I still love to hunt but like I said I'm just lazier now.

I know that feeling, man. Some days - heck, most days - if it's late in the afternoon it better be Bullwinkle coming within range.

As I get older, I think that maybe the smaller ones are better.....

The 8pt I killed this past Sunday weighed 190 lbs and was a PIA to load by myself! I wish Tatsoul had come riding through on his Can Am......we woulda drug it into the front seat and had it made! smile

I shoot outside the ears and try to count points. Some times its a six point sometimes eight. Most of my shots are really fast. I hunt wma and a heavily hunted club and i dont have time to count points but i know wh w n i first see it if i want to take it or let it walk. It is ignorant for someone to degrade another about the size of their deer. I say if they are legally shooting their 3 bucks and are feeding their families so be it. If we do our part and pass on the small bucks it will all come out in the wash and we will have more big bucks. Just do your own thing. Good luck guys

I'll never understand it myself. I've only killed one racked buck in my LIFE! It was a small 8point that I hunted my ass off to kill about 3 or so years ago. Some folks just don't have the opportunity or land to see a lot of deer and they take advantage of what they do get to see.

Fast forward to this year and I'm in a really good club in TN. I've had the best season I've ever had as far as deer hunting and seeing tons of deer (bucks and does) in the woods. I haven't pulled the trigger on one yet, but then again I'm seeing TONS of deer and simply having the opportunity to kill deer makes you a different hunter. Looking down on others that may not have that same opportunity is selfish and quite frankly those folks that do that looking down can go phuck themselves.

IDOT I remember when you killed that deer and everybody on this website was tickled to death for you. But like you said you'd probably rather let a buck just like that one walk off and enjoy watching him more than shooting him now.
I haven't been a deer hunter very long either and I've never killed a real big deer yet. I've always been a turkey hunter and I just never had a lot of interest in it. T Winters carried me with him a time or 2 and I kinda got hooked on it once I realized there's a lot more to it than just sitting down and waiting for a deer to come walking by you.
The first buck I killed was a pretty little 3 year old 8 point...... I had found some good sign and figured there might be a good deer in there and caught him checking a scrape one evening right before dark. I was tickled to death and couldn't have been prouder.
Fast forward to last season and I stayed in the woods a little too late and shot a pretty little 3 year old with a big body chasing a doe right at dark. It was basically a twin to the first buck I killed but instead of being proud of it I felt sick because that deer could have been a real stud if he had lived a couple more years.
It sounds like you and I both are progressing as deer hunters and we've figured out its a lot more fun to just let the younger bucks walk and watch them as opposed to blasting them. That seems pretty natural to me.
I think what the original poster was referring to was the guys that just keep piling up 2 year olds year after year. Some of them are really good hunters but they are just bloodthirsty. Most of the guys like that don't bother stopping at 3 bucks a season either.
So when it's put that way (and I do believe that's how the original poster intended it) I don't see what makes a grown man wanna keep shooting little tiny yearling bucks and 2 year olds either.
I don't think he meant it to apply to people that have either never killed or seen many deer or to people that only get to hunt a couple times a season.

I guess I am just different.

The goal of hunting is to kill.....and, I like to kill deer.
True enough, I do try to kill mature deer. But, that is just a decision, not a goal.

There is nothing wrong with Management, Farming for deer OR Trophy Hunting. They are all great fun for different people.

The line is crossed when one group tries to force their ideas on all the others.

That is simply my opinion. Everyone is entitled to their own. smile

Damn, didn't think I would've started all this shit. I'm just about tired of stupid phucking crap like this on here. I had no ill intentions whatsoever by posting this. BrentM took the post exactly the way it was meant. I just made an observation, and all the sudden it turns into anti trophy anti meat hunter crap. I could give a flying phuck really and truly if y'all kill every last one of them. Just leave me a turkey or 2. Y'all have a good season.

Im with you johnal3. I think people are being more selective overall since we can only kill three bucks and its a great thing.

I was thinking about all this the other day. I've got several racks in my shop that I sawed off and are just collecting dust. I don't have the want to anymore to shoot the little guys, if someone else wants to, more power to em. My goal now is to not shoot anything unless its going on the wall. If that means going several years without shooting a buck then so be it.

Yeah I had pics of a lot bigger 8 in the same place and I thought it was him. I was mad at myself more for hunting too late than anything. I would have let the deer walk if I could had seen him good and hopefully had a really nice 4 year old deer for somebody to hunt this season. And since I'm being completely honest, I probably should have gotten a ticket for shooting as late as I did. It was getting pretty dark. Bad judgement all around on my part

I also think the 3 buck limit has helped to get our deer to an older age class, even if folks still shoot some younger bucks there will still be more bucks reaching maturity,if folks will stop shooting when they get there 3. I know for a fact it has changed my perspective,I used to be the guy blasting ever legal buck that crossed my path.

I remember when killing a doe was a flat out sin in the deer woods, but it was ok to kill 25 young bucks a year.

I personally don't need to kill many deer since I am the only one that eats it at my house,so I will shoot a couple a year for meat, and then I will look for a big deer to hunt.

I would rather be turkey hunting
