SHAZAAM! $1300 a month? BC/BS is great ins. but that is an awful lot to pay out of your check. I am very fortunate that I only pay $5 a week for mine. It's the best I've ever had. Is going to a different employer an option?

I've got to do something different. I DO NOT want to go with obama care. Right now we have BC & BS. It's myself, my wife, a 7 year old , & a 2 year old. It has gone up again, so we went with a cheaper plan (less coverage/higher deductible). We are paying $1300 a month right now and I have to believe there are other options. Please tell me I'm right. That's what I'll be paying for a family of four in jan

I haven't had a ppo plan for the last two years, if you run the numbers its cheaper to put that money into an account and just pay the bills yourself. I have a $4000 deductible for the family. I pay every penny until that amount is reached. But I still come out cheaper than paying the rediculous amount for ppo.

If you're an active member of a church you can get medishare. I've talked to a couple of people that have it and they really like it. However, I think there is a little more to it than just being a member of a church. My parents couldn't get on it because my mother was a little over what is considered a healthy weight threshold. Even though she eats mostly organic, is very healthy, and rarely ever has to go to the doctor, she couldn't qualify.

I switched over this year from an HRC as well because my plan was going up a couple hundred dollars per month. When I ran the numbers I was better off going with a plan that I paid the deductible and used a Health Savings Account to put the difference between the two premiums into a tax free savings account for my deductible to be paid out of.

Has anyone done the plan like Goodman, Jared, & WFGator and regreted it? It really sounds good to me, but I'm sure it's like most things and has it's downfalls.
Also, can you go this route when you are self employed (individual plan) or does it have to be a company group plan?

Blue has gotten very expensive but all have raised deductibles and the like. Wanted to charge me and wife almost $1500 a month I had blue until this year but just switched to the company I'm an agent for. I didn't make the switch out of loyalty. It just made better sense. I saved more than $500 over blue. The changes in my 2016 blue policy just didn't make sense to keep it. I would be paying for something with a deductible so high I could never meet it. Blue also had nerve to make coinsurance on both in and out of network 50% on a ppo. Maybe it's different in AL than FL. You have to look at the whole picture and consider your cost, deductibles, copay, coinsurance and what you use. Everybody has different needs but all have come up in price & deductibles and coinsurance. Marketplace pretty much is HMOs. Just look at big picture and don't buy more than you'll use. You don't want to leave money on the table.

I had paid for my own insurance and had BC/BS for the last 15 years. 2 years ago my family plan went from $536 to $1855 a month. Coverage was gutted, deductible was $5k and co-pay doubled. I dropped it and just pay as I go and the thing is it's so dang much cheaper without insurance it's crazy. I know that if something major happens it won't be that way but I can go to the VA and if it's serious my family can't be refused treatment so I can pay $2k a month in payments on whatever and it would be about the same. Unfortunately I don't believe that is how it works anymore under Obama Care. My understanding is that under the new law, hospitals are fined for treating those who can't pay and have chosen not to be covered under an insurance plan. This is their way of closing the loophole and forcing people to be covered under Obama Care. Otherwise everyone would be doing that because the costs have gone up so much.
