I sign on the new house, Dec 11th. Took out a 30 year mortgage. So it will be payed off when I'm 88. I was within three years of having my Texas house payed for. if you were within 3 years of having your Texas house paid for then shouldn't you be able to use the equity in that house to pay for your new one?

Congrats, now Uncle Sam is going to be looking for a little bit more of your income without a tax shelter. Invest wisely and keep his paws off your money.

Yep. But we upgraded. Alabama housing way cheaper than Dallas market.

Congrats, now Uncle Sam is going to be looking for a little bit more of your income without a tax shelter. Invest wisely and keep his paws off your money. there are many other ways to protect your money besides a mortgage. the mortgage interest deduction allows you to take the amount of mortgage interest you pay off of your taxable income. So if you make $100,000 and you pay $10,000 in mortgage interest your taxable income is only $90,000. at that income you would be taxed at roughly 25% and would have saved $2,500 in taxes. So basically you paid a bank $10,000 to save $2,500 in taxes. You can accomplish the same think tax wise by donating $10,000 to your church or charity of your choice.

After seventeen years we finally mailed in our last house payment today. After busting our ass, doubling up on payments, and paying extra when we could, we can offially say we own our house. What a great feeling that is. Now what kind of toys do I need, lol. That has got to be one helluva good feeling. Congrats to yall. Maybe one day for us.....

Congrats. If you serious about toys, things I'd look at would be a nice boat to fish from or maybe a nice rifle or bow or a utv.

I'm sure you will enjoy it when your 88 and beyond, congrats on the new house. What's great is that my new house payment (including the escrow) is less than what I would pay monthly in Texas after I paid my mortgage off.
