Are they marking pole timber? What is pole timber? That's what it sounds like to me. Pole timber is just that, trees that will become power poles, transmission line poles, ect. Yep. Usually the number of slashes indicate the length of the pole. and I did notice that some trees had 2 lines while others had 3 or 4. So I'd imagine you are correct
