Now wait a minute, you can't hunt that bush hogged corn but everyone else can!

The word is after the push to legalize this year that it's a go for Alabama next year. This comes from a guy I'm friends with that is around some of the political folks that have the sway which I'm nowhere near that circle but we will see. Whether u like the rule or not in my opinion it's rediculus it's not legal since a lot do it in secret or follow the 100 yard rule.

The corn rule is just ridiculous. I used to be 100% against baiting but Ive changed my tune. The GW shouldn't be able to make a "presumption" based on where he thinks the deer might or might not come from to eat the bait. Just make it legal andbe done with it.

This is absolutely incorrect. Nowhere in the regulation does it say anything about a a feeder. If you rather PM me that's fine. I'd like to know is telling hunters this information.

Exactly! That's why he said you can't see the deer eat the corn. Doesn't matter where the deer came from or is going. But myself like others won't do it because I don't need a ticket and you will probably lose if you fight it.

You gonna pay court cost, anyway. Take it to court and clog the system up.

Even with the stated law, you better talk to the officer for YOUR area. I've talked to our officer in Tuscaloosa County and know exactly what is legal and what isn't.

Corn is the least of the problems with Alabama's wildlife populations. The bag limits and getting firm data on what the bag limits should be, should be a higher priority over worrying about Larry and Joe hunting within 100 yards of a feeder. I don't know many people that could afford to feed an gigantic amount of corn from October to January anyway.

The biggest thing I've heard from a few gw's is don't go throw a bag of corn on the ground and 3 days latter be 100 yds and just out of site. I feed mine sept-feb in the same spot. I don't hunt over it I may have a deer pass going or coming from it I may not.

What did the GW in Tuscaloosa tell you about this? Just curious if he told us the same thing.

Making hunting over bait legal combined with very liberal bag limits could be a very bad thing for the deer herd.....worse than coyotes. Yes, worse than coyotes

Y'all let me in on it too. I don't hunt anywhere near corn, but it would be nice to know.

Three things. First, must adhere to the 100 yard/out of sight rule (duh). Second, if by chance you had a feeder off a gas line that meets the regs, no ticket would be given if you were hunting the gas line and shot a deer crossing in the direction of the feeder (he claims he can't know for certain a deer was heading there). Third, if multiple game wardens came and worked the county with him, they have to abide by his interpretation of the rule.

I think that they should make all baiting (feeding) deer illegal.
Go ahead and put you up a high fence. Same principle,
its not really ethical.

Feeding them up sucks; cost, hauling it in, changes their browsing patterns, stinking up the woods with your scent, I could go on. Not to mention the question of how sportting is it to take a deer over a corn pile. But yes it works. I learned to hunt that way in Florida. Most of the deer Ive taken in Alabama have had corn in their gut (not mine)and thats before the revision to the baiting law. Your not going to stop the poachers from feeding up. I prefer not to feed and would rather the law to revert to the way it was with more costly fines for infractions. As to the food plot is baiting argument, give me a break. To me its just a pain in the ass and not as challenging of a hunt.

I prefer to let my neighbor feed them & hunt the property line. I don't shoot or harass does on my property so I get most of his better bucks anyway.

ok, so say I have a greenfield that the deer are coming to, and I have a feeder on the side of it. you can't see the feeder and it's 100 yards. However, a deer that comes from any direction can be seen due to a clear cut surrounding the field. Am I illegal because I can see the trails the deer are using to come to my food plot with a feeder on the side of it that cant be seen at 100 yards????????

Learn to hunt and you will not need corn. Pretty easy really.
Oh, unless that is too much trouble, then just put your corn out and take your chances.

Good luck!

It is also not supposed to be in a location that would entice deer to cross the path of a STAND to get to the corn. This is the grey area as far as I am concerned.
