How many of those fawns that they think was killed by coyotes, were killed because they had been handle by humans?
83% of all statistics are made up.

I would say very little to none , if you read the other article on the other two studies conducted it was not done by capturing and Collaring fawns .

I wonder how many yotes they think there are in alabama?

If y'all don't believe the coyotes are having a huge impact on our deer herd, you're in for a rude awaking. I don't think they kill too many healthy adult deer, but they are decimating the fawn population in areas each year. Add that and the over harvest of does and we have our current situation in the Southern Zone. I know of a club in Tuscaloosa County up near the Fayette line that had a very healthy deer population back 10 years ago. Now you're lucky if you see over 10 deer in a season. Ask Cuz-Pat, he'll feel you in. They were hammering the hell out of the does while their coyote population went through the roof. If your coyote sightings and sign start increasing on your hunting area, you better start backing off on the does and try to do something about the yotes.

Here is the problem , you take 3000 acres of timber land , some Clear cut , some thinned, some old growth , with the occasional food plot , hard wood creek bottom and beaver swamp .. These tracts of land are pretty exspansive, they have little human intrusion , unlike farm land with fence rows and patches of woods, and folks like DW riding around on fourwheelers and tractors. The coyote will not run in as large of packs in this situation. . But you give them a big forest and the only prefator they see is the occasional hunter during hunting season . You have an entirely diffrent situatuon .

A few years ago we never saw yotes where I hunt in Selma....... Now they are everywhere and this is the first year I haven't seen a newborn fawn. We used to get pics of em all the time.....now none. There IS a coyote problem.

Also, a guy told me one time to get rid of yotes, soak a sponge in bacon grease and set it out. The yotes can't digest the sponge.......but then neither can foxes, bears, or anything else that would eat it.

Let me be clear - I think they are straight working on fawns in places, and agree with what's already been stated about that.
What I referenced was the part about shooting them during the winter, and how people think they are doing the deer a favor by shooting an occasional yote at that time. And will get all worked up if you question that, saying a dead yote is one less. I don't think killing 2 or 5 during deer season is doing very much - and what they hinted at about pup recruitment is interesting.
I believe trapping during the summer months (or whenever most fawns hit the ground in a specific area) is the only way to have an impact, and studies will likely continue to prove that. I can see the logic behind the reasoning but , that being said I can't see all deer hunters letting them roll on to spring, to breed and make more yotes .. I like the kill em all mentality , and would like to see that grow into a cordinated effort to reducing #'s .
