central ala,
I don't understand Selma. On 14 from the east side to the Co-op I counted 14 hotels. Some really nice ones around the Co-op. How does Selma support so many hotels? All of Autauga Co. probably does not have 3! 14!?!?! And that is just what is on Hwy. 14!

Go to Craig Field and find a room. laugh

Selma can't fill up all of those hotels on any given day or weekend but when there is a big event(Presidents or politicians come visit or Jubilee, etc.) we can have anywhere from 10-50,000 visitors. Many tourist do want to stop and see the sights and history of the town. I tell people all the time that it's the most famous city of less than 20,000 people in America and it ain't debatable. From Indians to Civil War to Civil rights this place has seen it all.

I understand that. Say the bridge crossing fills them up for a week. IP has a shutdown and fills them up for 3 weeks. State Troopers has some schools and fill them up 3 weeks. Throw in 3 more weeks for misc. to fill them up. That is 10 weeks out of 52. That means Selma tourism has to keep 14 hotels afloat for 42 other weeks out of the year. Must happen because they are there but I just don't see it. And that is just 14 I can see from Hwy 14.

But if I were going to stay in Selma it would be by the Co-op.

For a large part of Selma's population, staying in a motel is a big vacation event, even if it is a mile from your house. You'll read this and think I'm kidding, but I'm dead serious. It took years at the PD to accept this. I still don't understand it, but I've accepted it as a cultural difference.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Doesn't surprise me. We had problems in Selma when people moved they took EVERYTHING with them...and that included their address. We would get 911 calls and they would state their address. Go there and they would tell us where they moved to.

This is true, hunted down there for several years and noticed this, made no sense to me but those hotels seemed to be full every weekend

On our big event we use the Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express. Naturally we have a large group. We have never had any issues with thugs or that sort of thing and hope we never do. We did have issues at Comfort Inn and Quality Inn.

Airbnb might be an option if you don't want a motel room. Your can get a home, apt, or room. Just depends on how long your gonna be there... might be a better option.

I doubt the nicer hotels do it but I think a good deal of the worse ones rent weekly to people living there permanently. Good friend owns one of the less desirable and I'd say 90% of his business comes from "permanent" residents.

Very good motels at intersection of Hwy 80 and 14. Across from the co-op and near hospital. Dinner at The Tally Ho rest. is best in town.
