After my 17 yr old realized I wasnt going to buy him a $20k truck, or even co sign on one I ended up with him a loaded 01 Z71 for $4200.
I found them (99-03's) anywhere in the $4k to 6k range. I looked at probably 10 before I got this one and spent 3 months time looking and drove to Nashville to get it.
I wanted to stick with a 4x4 and looked at 96-98 models also but they were just as much as the 99-03's.
There are some very good bargains out there in 2wd ext cab trucks in the 96-03 range.
My dad has a 06 with the 4.3 and never had the first problem out of it with 250k on it.
