I am in helena/bessemer if you are willing to travel that far you can borrow cheap detector for free. I'm over on that side of town a good bit. If you don't mind I would really appreciate it. I bought one at Radio Shack for $40 or so for the same reasons you are wanting one.
Mine worked fine to find the corners.

he will probably spend $50 in fuel driving all over hell to borrow one instead of taking the good advice you gentlemen have given him. he is kinda special like that. This jack leg already knows I borrowed one from Morris. In hindsight had I realized that you could buy one under $75 I would have gone that route. Found all corners and they matched up perfectly with the old survey and that saved me around $1500. I appreciate the offers to let me borrow one.
