I go a fair amount. My favorite museum is the Tenement Museum http://www.tenement.org/ and Ellis Island.
Times square is a must see if it's your first visit, but it stresses me out with all of the people. Don't be afraid of the subway. Download an app called Citymapper. It makes riding the subway a breeze.

Buy tickets in advance to EVERYTHING you can. The line to the statue of liberty was about 8h when we went over New Years wit the kids. I pullout my phone, bought tickets on my phone, and walked to the front of the line with my tickets.

WTW has a really good list for you!

Katz Deli.....yes, yes yes

They have the red doubledecker buses that give hop on and hop off tours...great way to see the city...ride to a destination you want, hop off...then when next bus comes back, hop back on.

Probably several other similar hop on/off tours too.

We really enjoyed out trip to NYC a few years ago. Would never ever live there or even close, but really cool to visit.

Get outside of the city and see the country side, some of the prettiest I've ever been around.

November is not a good time to go . but ,,, check out the Rockefeller Center center go to the top of that building . i like the view better there than off Empire State Bldg . it's cheaper too .

i'll see if they do the boat tour around Manhattan island but i think they shut it down in the winter , i like the tour . it's 3 hours of history and info about new york .

one thing for sure you have to see the city at night and in the day . plan on a lot of walking .

i'm hoping you have some one there you know ???

NYC is interesting to visit once. Ive driven through twice and hope I never have to go again. Driving anywhere SUCKS. Imagine you are trying to get out of Tuscaloosa after a home game, every minute you are there.

* Know where you are going before you enter the tunnels. Once you get in a lane, that's it. You're committed.

Going out on Long Island is kinda cool, but the tolls are crazy.

If you get a chance to get out into NY, especially upstate, its beautiful. There may still be leaves on and they should be in full color.

I didn't read through the whole thread, so this may have been mentioned already, but buy your tickets to the Statue of Liberty now. They're always sold out in advance.

NYC is a great place to visit once or twice. My brother lives in Brooklyn and my wife loves to visit, but I would never live there.

Enjoy your trip!

My wife and I went last December. I had been before but she hadn't. It is crazy crowded that time of year, especially around Times Square. She enjoyed the Rockette's Christmas show. I would buy those tickets early. You can tour Rockefeller Plaza...that's where they film Saturday Night Live, Jimmy Fallon, and NBC Nightly News. She also enjoyed the window displays at Saks 5th Avenue. We ate a really good steak at Gallagher's. Take comfortable shoes and warm clothes. Hard to explain the cold up there. It cuts right through you. Our first day there it was 26 in Alabama and 33 in NYC that morning. By noon, it was 45 I Alabama and 33 in NYC. It feels like the sun doesn't warm it up and the wind will cut you in half. We had a huge sandwich at Carnagie Deli. They were massive.

I have to go for work several times per year. It is a great place to visit. My best advice is try to sit down before you leave the hotel each morning and know exactly where you are going. Not only will it save you time but if you try to stop on the sidewalk to pull out your map you will get run over.

I've been once. Don't plan on doing it again. Take the subway and walk. Don't drive anywhere.

Enjoy the food. That was the best part of the trip.

My family went last year for spring break. It was my first time. I loved it. A lot to see. Go to all the major sight seeing places early. We went to the statue of liberty when it opened and walked right on the boat. By noon there were 100's of people waiting in line. We went to the "top of the rock" at night and it was crazy packed. Something I found fun to do was each time we left the hotel we would walked down a different street. There is something neat to see on every street. Be prepared to walk a lot. Per my phone we walked an average of 8-10 miles a day.
