And for follow up:
We can know what is true if we are willing to accept God at His Word.
Here are a few examples:
In Genesis 1.
1. God created the heavens (plural) and the earth. Designed and created by him.
2. Water was here when God created, before He made dry land appear and before the earth even had its form, not brought about by comets.
3. God in his design set things in place.
4. We are given a reason for the lights, heavens, stars--to be signs and markers for the seasons and years and for light. They are to serve his created earth, our planet.
We can know what is true also as revealed in Job and Isaiah where we can read in God's Word a little more how God designed and manipulated the universe.
Job 9:7-10
7 who commands the sun, and it does not rise;
who seals up the stars;
8 who alone stretched out the heavens
and trampled the waves of the sea;
9 who made the Bear and Orion,
the Pleiades and the chambers of the south;
10 who does great things beyond searching out,
and marvelous things beyond number.
Job 38: entire chapter reveals God is the creator and author and has set and ordained everything.
Isaiah 44:24
24 Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer,
who formed you from the womb:
“I am the Lord, who made all things,
who alone stretched out the heavens,
who spread out the earth by myself,
Isaiah 45: 11-12
11 Thus says the Lord,
the Holy One of Israel, and the one who formed him:
“Ask me of things to come;
will you command me concerning my children and the work of my hands?
12 I made the earth
and created man on it;
it was my hands that stretched out the heavens,
and I commanded all their host.
Just examples of plan, design and purpose. Either we base our biblical worldview on that or we ignore it/reject it and formulate our own manmade worldview on the subject. It is one or the other.
Now will we be left with questions? Absolutely! I have tons!
Will we ponder and wonder the why, how, reasons? Absolutely!
But we can, if we choose, do that pondering and reasoning within a Biblical framework and worldview.
Clem, you are right about God, He is all-knowing, all-powerful, Omnipotent, All-Mighty. There is nothing he cannot do, BUT be unjust, wrong or lie. God cannot be perfect and imperfect at the same time, so we know what he says and does is true-just-right 100% of the time.
For me, when I read his Word I see a clear presentation of what he did on earth and his purposes and precepts--knowing that I only see a fraction of what is to be seen. I'm not God , so I am severely limited in my understanding and ability. So when God tells me that He created the universe and the heavenly bodies are there for a purpose to serve the earth----I just take it as Truth. So when He tells me of creation, the fall of man, the curse, Christ, salvation and the Gospel message--and all of the logical conclusions that come from that kind of study--I just take it as Truth.
The impact of evolutionary science is so very strong, that too often we try to make the Bible fit into what secular science has claimed and repeats as true, even in cases with no proof--just ideas that appear sound from a secular viewpoint. I think many believers feel the need to blend the intellectual secular "truths" with the Bible TRUTHS...and it is a trap to ensnare some into believing all manner of myths, legends and falsehoods.
Now there is real and legitimate science and technology that is very much true that the Bible never speaks on. But the fundamental concepts of that science do not alter the Word either. Computers and binary code; Medical advancements; Rockets and spaceships; Construction and design---so many things never even talked about in the Bible...but they do not counter the Gospel message either. So we advance as a culture and live in harmony with some science and the Word of God.
Now there are scientific fields where real science advances into theory and lots of bloviating on origins, creation, processes, evolution, environmentalism, age of earth, geology, etc... We can study rocks and know all the properties and uses, but we can then start prescribing ages to them with fallible procedures and make conclusions that the earth is billions of years old....or we can take animal biology to the next level and begin to claim evolution as true without real facts just theories----these are the types of things that start going against and counter to the Word and the Gospel.
I'm rambling, but I want to be clear I'm not limiting God by pointing out what He has addressed already.
