No high fence or canned hunts. I'd just as soon shoot a cow.
Never had any desire to kill a bear. Don't know why. Just never have. No desire to hunt Africa.
As for the why when it comes to Africa. Couple of reasons.
First, you are just totally a tag along until it's time to shoot. The PH takes you where he decides you need to go. You follow him around; standing where he says; moving when he says; farting when he says; etc; etc; until he tells you what and when to shoot. You are just a trigger man. You had absolutely nothing to do with the success of the hunt other than squeezing the trigger. Hang a bucket on a fence and shoot it while propped on shooting sticks and you have pulled off the same accomplishment. Hell, it's more of an accomplishment because at least you also hung the bucket. Cheaper too.
And second, you don't bring any of the meat back from an African safari so you are totally trophy hunting. And that's fine. I trophy hunt for whitetails here. But trophies from Africa would have little true meaning to me. I have spent my whole life hunting whitetails and turkey. I know exactly how much time, effort and luck it takes to kill trophy animals of either species because I have spent countless hours out there in pursuit of them. If I went to Africa and shot the largest Kudu anyone over there had seen in 100 years it wouldn't mean one bit more to me than just killing some basic shooter size Kudu. I have no frame of reference between the two. Sure I can read a description in a book on what makes an animal of a given species a trophy but without the life experience to back it up it just wouldn't be the same.

Not attempting to ruffle feathers but as far as Africa , which is the purpose of shooting a zebra, giraffe, elephant those type animals. I get the wildebeest , kudu that type animals but a painted horse ? I'm sure elephants could be exciting just not for me It's not hard to kill a painted horse. I especially after the sob kicked you. I know that for a fact. I like to kill stuff. So I'm open to about anything out there. But just don't do it in a regular basis. And if I can hunt it with dogs, I'm in for sure.

Bout the same thing as the wild mustangs out west or the wild horses on the Outer Banks of N.C. They can be broke to work. Giraffes are beautiful, graceful creatures , nothing else looks like them on earth. Both are legal so it's OK to shoot them, just not for me. As far as going to Africa, I ain't found a shortage of game on this side of the world.

I have zero interest in any guided hunt of any kind. I don't care a thing about hunting anything in a fence. I could care less about hunting in Africa.

I would like to go to Africa but it's not on my bucket list. Have no desire to shoot a bear. Have no desire to chase hounds through swamp after hogs. Would never hunt inside a high fence.

I'm surprised at how many people have no desire to hunt outside Alabama or the Southeast. For me a hunting trip is as much about the adventure of seeing new country as about the hunt. I have been fortunate enough to hunt in Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, Florida, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Colorado and Kansas. I have never regretted a single trip, but I have regretted not going to places I've had an opportunity to go. I've met a few folks trying to kill a turkey in each state. What better way to see the Country than on hunting trips. If I had the time and money, I would be hunting all over the world. I have passed on a few trips over safety concerns. A few of us came really close to going to Mexico last year on Gould's hunt, but after speaking with a friend who owns a hunting operation in Mexico we passed on the trip. My buddy shut the doors of his place a few years ago due to the instability in the area and relies on local folks to keep it up for him. That would be my only reservation on hunting different places around the world. I'm not jeopardizing my safety or freedom for a critter.

I'm also surpirsed at the number of you that don't want to hunt bear.
Is it the fact that they can and will eat you?
There are other bears than black bears and there are other ways to hunt them other than sitting in a tree stand over bait waiting......sorta like deer hunting here. Waiting on them to show up.

No it's the fact that they are like large black labs and look like cubs when you mount them at least most the ones I have seen do

No real desire to go to Africa but if it was free I'd give it a try. I wouldn't care anything about hunting an elephant or a giraffe though.

I still sit and read all of this and laugh at the people that say a Texas hunt over corn or high fence hunt! I have hunted in Missouri, Alabama, North Dakota, and Texas. Texas is the most fun out of them all in my opinion. I bet the MAJORITY of people that complain about corn and "bait" have done it or do it here in Alabama every year! For the record I have hunted in high fence and low fence in Texas and never killed a deer inside the fence. Killed a 144" 10 on low fence, But for me:
