How many of y'all are members of a union? A couple of months ago I joined the united steel workers union after thinking on it for about a year. We just voted in a new three year contract and it was an interesting process to be a part of.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

I have a client who lists his employer as "Local 1234" in Birmingham (or something like that). He's an electrician. How is that union his employer? Am I understanding that righ?

At risk of getting booted off ALDEER and losing my salvation, I'll admit to being a member of the much hated AEA. However, AEA isn't a true union at all despite what its opponents say. The AEA has no legal authority or collective bargaining power to help teachers -- especially now that Alabama Republicans have stripped it of its influence and dignity. It's always been an association that fought for teachers rather than a true union.

People say that the AEA used to have too much power, but now that it has no power K-12 teachers and two year college employees will never get another pay raise in this state. Teacher salaries will continue to decline as cost of living goes up year after year.

He works through the electricians local! The union has contractors that use the union members on their jobs.... So instead of listing afew different contractors that he's worked for he just list the union itself...

So You don't think that as teachers start to leave the state, or go into other fields, Salaries will have to increase to keep teachers here, just like in pretty much any other occupation? If not, then why would it not be so? I'm not being a smart aleck here. I just don't see increased pay not happening along the way.

Former IBEW but only because it was required for the job.

How bout a union that fought for the STUDENTS? How bout ending tenure so that worthless teachers can be fired like worthless employees in other occupations? How bout being paid what you've earned via testing results and work ethic instead of what the union makes the school administration believe you're worth?

And in the end it's the same old thing....we need more money. It's for the kids. The AEA and public school systems are just like ALL liberal organizations....they need more money. If the school systems had every coin, every paper note, all the gold and silver mined they'd want more. But don't try to get that shitty math teacher fired.

Rant over.
