Ok.... let me educate you here. Alabama did opt out of a series with Michigan State (for reasons already explained). They also opted out of a contract with Notre Dame and Penn State as well for various reasons several years back. It wasn't because Alabama was afraid because they have played all three of those teams since then and beat the brown stuff out of them.

Now I will tell you why Auburn bought their way out of the 1999 FSU game. In 1998 Terry Bowden had run the program into the ground. He resigned after starting off 1-5. The interim coach Bill Oliver didn't fare much better and the Tigers finished 3 - 8. Auburns football program was in shambles, so Housel hired Tommy Tuberville to turn it around. Housel knew there was not enough talent or structure on Auburns roster to beat FSU (who was in the middle of their hayday), so he opted out of the series. He took a lot of flack for that but the man didn't want to see his brand new hire with two 50 point losses hung on him in his frst two seasons (yes there were two games scheduled, one in 99 and one in 2000). In 99 the seminoles went 12 - 0 and won the National Championship by beating Michael Vick and Virginia Tech. They went 11-2 in 2000 only losing to Miami and then Oklahoma in the National Championship game. Those games against Auburn would not have been competitive.

Because that's the Alabama way. Bama doesn't run to weaker conferences for easier paths to the National Championship. That's for punks.

Not sure if you watched the same game as I did or if you were still a little punch drunk from the beating the Ducks put on FSU. The Alabama Ohio State game came down to the last posession and OSU was down 21-6 at one point. Props to them for coming back, but that's hardly "easily defeating" Bama.

Ohio State was good and had a couple of upsets in them, but they probably should not have even been in that fourth seed spot. The Big 12 screwed the pooch by naming TCU and Baylor co-champs which put the selection committe in a bad position. OSU's convincing victory over Wisconsin the Big 10 title game plus the cluster that is the Big 12 propelled OSU into the playoffs.

Be sure to let us know what rock you crawl under after the game so we can check up on you every once in a while.

Punch drunk is putting it nicely. My neighbors learned of both my disdain for Jameis and my hatred for the Ducks. Anyway, I'll find out what rock all these auburn fans hid under after we spanked them and I'll give you directions to it before opening day 2017. smile
Maybe we can work out a friendly turkey hunting wager.
