I would hesitate to put a single dog, especially a pup, on a wounded deer without a lead. I've seen two dogs killed by wounded spikes years ago, they were in the edge of a beaver pond. Dang....that would suck. They told me not to turn Otis loose on any his first year for sure because if one charged him and got hold of him then it may scar him for life. I'd like to turn him out on a little doe for his first bay if I could just to see how he reacts. His breed is actually originally a hog baying dog.
