And I thought I was bad. Back in the 1970's I was running a 106mm Recoilless Rifle range while I was an officer in the U S Army. A lone doe walked out next to an APC hull at 800 meters and I couldn't resist. Since a 106 mm HEAT round will go through 21 inches of solid steel, there wasn't much left of the doe. Beer wasn't involved, just a dumb1LT who missed the deer woods.

{{{I am a member of a fine hunting club in forest home. We have our members now, but I see on the web the club is being bashed. For stupid stuff like some guys pay more than some guys for power or some crap. Well some guys me included do more than our share of the work days and I did not pay the 125 for power , but I did go buy the club tractor a 149.00 battery the day it went bad so we could keep working while the guys bashing on here sat at the house. In the last 3 seasons we have voted out 1-2 a year for being sorry like they are doing on the web. Everything from shooting deer and leaving them lay because they were not big enough to bring to the camp . To a idiot trying to call coyotes 150yrd from your stand in the rut. If you want a list of trouble makers let me know and I feel for the clubs they join most have to find a new each year so they are coming your way. I can tell you this . This is the only club I have ever been in where you see young Rack bucks on 15 of the 30 plots almost every time you sit it. There are a lot of idiots that can't stand that and bad mouth the place when they are removed. Yes we have to run off a few Nuts to keep it that way. Hope you don't meet them ! P. S. Poor Ol Ray. He just can't help himself. He's gone from trolling for suckers to subsidize his deer lease to looking for a sympathetic ear to blame his troubles on. He doesn't realize that once he sends an email, it's preserved forever. He sends conflicting stories to his members trying to stir up hate and discontent. This post says he bought the tractor battery but his email on Monday says his son bought the battery. I keep hoping current or former members will come on here and tell the rest of the stories.

- Like the one where his brother shot his rifle over the heads of the Game Wardens one evening

- Or that the game wardens visited the camp on several occasions for a couple of seasons due to the activities of some members

- Or the drunk who went on a couple different shooting rampages during the night in the middle of the camp

- Or the fist fight at the skinning shed.

- Or the fact Poor Ol Ray has to replace HALF his membership every single year

These are legendendary stories told at The Gentleman's Hunting Club. But I can't swear to them since I was not a member then.

There should be a waiting list a mile long to join this club. Brand new Double Wide camp, abundance of deer and turkey, extremely gracious land owner and spectacular woods. Too bad the guy running it is incompetant and self serving. And now he's trying to blame his woes on everybody else. If I didn't know better I'ld swear he was a democrat. It's the Rebublicans, George Bush, the Koch brothers or maybe Wall Street's fault.

Back to topic. Ralph, you don't know me but thanks for for your attempts to dethrone Ray. I was a member before you. I know of several former members watching this thread but none want to post. Too many bad memories. Ray has managed the club for about 14 years I'm guessing. He has been able to recruit members every year because the property sells itself. It is one of the best properties in the black belt. However, I assure everyone if you join you will be extremely disappointed. The club is grossly miss-managed and if you know how to hunt you will be made to feel unwelcome. There is a reason at least half the members leave every year. Ray really screwed up with the Salter thing. Some former members are grouping together and plan to talk to Atkins about taking over the lease. Every former member that was asked if they would join is interested with the stipulation that none of the Pattersons be allowed in the club. I think Atkins will be reluctant to cut Ray out because he doesn't know what goes on. I like how Ray tried to make you out as crazy. Ray should tell the story of how he and a guy brought a spine shot buck to the cleaning station while it was still alive. Ray might come back and tell the story. He thinks it's funny. Better yet get his son Cameron to post videos he took of a buck that took a while to die. When asked why he didn't put the buck down Cameron claimed he was out of ammunition. His uncle was even disgusted by the video.

Thank you DeltaRunner for having the courage to come on here and not only defend me but to further expose Ray for who he is.

This thread has been up for 8 days now. Just shy of 5800 views and over 150 replies. I don't know if this is a record for ALDEER but it certainly indicates the word is spreading about Poor Ol Ray and his deer club management antics.

After all this, I am very tempted to fly back from Texas just to go down there, see this place, and meet Mr. Ray...Not really to introduce myself but purely just to laugh at him and then leave

I will add to this, I have been in contact with Ray about the Club. I have to say it is 2 very conflicting stories. I have not looked at the place and honestly doubt I will because I cant afford to lose anymore money on hunting. I hate the fact that such a great place, hunting wise, has came to this. Love to hear from other past members and their take.Some of these stories are nuts, but we do live in a crazy world. To get kicked out for hunting to much just blows my mind! That is what is tough when you go to get into clubs, you just never know who people truly are. It is still tempting to go meet and look at place, and really see for myself. If my son was not involved and primary hunter It would be tempting.

Deer will make people do crazy things. Ego, jealously and the inabilty to mature are bad character traits.

That fact that it's such a beautiful piece of property is what makes it frustrating. They will accuse you of hunting out of season. The will accuse you of shooting does or lesser bucks. They will accuse you of over pressuring the deer. That's really a joke, Ray and Wes scrub hunt the whole club. They end up wounding and losing deer every year. The Cameron story where he videoed the dying buck. I should have mentioned he shot 2 bucks and brought them back to camp. They were both young. One was a 4 pt and the other a 5pt. Against the rules of course but he claimed they were cull bucks. It got so ugly that night I can't believe it didn't come to blows between the Cameron and a first year member. A couple of members packed up and left in the middle of the night after that. Ray wasn't there that night. I shouldn't have posted here. I'm just getting angry about things I thought I had put behind me.
