I've already done that once - replaced the transfer case shift motor which is usually the problem. I just *knew* it was fixed until I turned the knob and..........*nothing*

I wove a tapestry of obscenities that, as far as we know, is still floating around somewhere over Northport, AL

this time, at least, I'll test it before I put the whole thing back together so I at least only do it once.

Have you scanned it for codes? Most likely it is the GEM module which is mounted behind the inside fuse block

I'm going to check the codes tomorrow (buddy has a reader that he's bringing to work with him).

If the issue was with the GEM, would it throw a code?

I don't know if one of the codes that mine had was the GEM but once they were reset it has worked like a champ since.

If, by some miracle, I simply reset any potential codes and it magically worked, after all the effort and anguish I've been through over this, I would both laugh AND cry at the same time.

UPDATE

I haven't done anything since I last posted about this. But I got in my truck today after not driving it for 5 days. When I cranked it I noticed the 4x4 dash light was on. I guess I left in the 4Hi position last time but it didn't matter since it wasn't working. Apparently while sitting the last 5 days, whatever was not working magically corrected itself and when I cranked, it got a current and switched into 4Hi. I swapped back and forth between 2Hi, 4Hi and 4Lo. Everything works fine.

I'm totally baffled.

Gonna flush the transfer case and front diff fluids before using it. We'll see if it stays "fixed"....

Gotta be a loose connection somewhere but I don't even know where to look. It's not loose at the switch or the transfer case so it'd have to be somewhere in between...

I love it when things fix themselves.

shift solonoid sticking or a short in the harness. Spent about 17 hours last week on a 99 Chevrolet. Finally found a spot In harness that was just enough for one strand of wire to be exposed and occasional shorted to trans.
