I've noticed how much knowledge you've got about calling and turkey hunting in general. I was wondering how long you've been turkey hunting and how many gobblers you've got under your belt?

I liked that video on the yardage he posted . really gave me some perspective. I dont think Ill shoot over 30 yds after seeing that.

Do you have any hunts that youve filmed too like that? I saw that your one friend is a videographer. Do you guys film hunts too?

yea..it was quite a poke. I had never seen what a gobbler at 40-50 yards looks like! Id definitely wait until he got in to 30 yards or less after seeing that.

Made me think that as long as I can identify it as a turkey without binos he must be inside 30 yards. Fire away!!

Neat. Hes got a youtube channel with videos.
you guys can learn a lot about calling watching them. Ive seen a few...and ended up taking notes. Very instructional and realistic sounding calls.

I think hes done a little competition calling before. He uses mouth calls, pot calls and a box call on them. Neat!

Just watched some of BGD's videos. He's a wealth of knowledge!

Hey BGD, anyone ever told you that you sound like Marty Huggins (Zach Galifinakis) from The Campaign?

Sorta, but not totally. I would never knowingly shoot a button head ever. But now a jake that gobbles and acts like a man....especially on a tough year....even when positively identified....is subject to get dealt with. Thankfully, we don't have very many "super jakes" up here in hillbilly land at all though. Keeps the temptation to a minimum. laugh

BTW, since I'm such a pitiful turkey hunter w/gobs of knowledge, would any of ya'll mind taking a "jake shooter" on a hunt with y'all so I could ... learn how to take a REAL gobbler, like a REAL man, which obviously all of you guys are??

wink

No shame in popping jake or 5. Keep at them and it will happen. You may have to lose your pal cockroach aka gomerpyle though. He is dragging you down. smile His wife might be e real turkey hunter in that family.

About the only unsolicited advice people on here don't mind is how to load TSS and which choke works best. Any other how to posts are generally frowned upon, primarily because arguably the nations top turkey killers reside on this forum. For the majority on here the how to part left with Elvis a long time ago. Go ask OG and Gobbler Nation if you need confirmation where the killers reside.

Folks that make money killing turkeys for a living on video could learn a lot from this group.

All that said, there isn't a one on here that won't lend a hand or help a newcomer. Unless it involves the coordinates of a gobbling bird or prime turkey land for lease. wink

Pull up a chair BGD and hang out. We still got 9 more days before a lot of this frustration gets released on some unknowing heads.

10-4, 3toe!

I will add this -- my #'s of birds taken personally over the past 5-6 years has taken a SERIOUS NOSE DIVE since I've started taking first-time turkey hunters into the woods, trying to help them bag a bird... AND, we've made every freakin' frustrating mistake in the WORLD, too... I grossly under-estimated the difficulty in 2 PEOPLE taking a bird, together... Videos like the Primos ones (and others) make it look a lot easier than my personal experiences have been...

*BUT*, I wouldn't trade taking a new turkey hunter into the woods & trying to help them get a bird -- not one bit. It's awesome to see how excited they get when they hear one gobble, encounter a bird (or group of birds) coming to our calling, and when it DOES happen, them taking down a bird... Many of these friends are now MADDER THAN HADES at me for getting them into this, in the first place!! hahahaha

I'm no expert, I don't have it all together, but somehow ... I guess by the grace of God ... I have managed to experience the feeling of taking a gobbler, in the field, a time or two, and hope I get to do it again -- and show others, too -- before I push up daisies (which hopefully is a long ways off from now)...

Keeps the temptation to a minimum. laugh

Boy that would be like shootin a buttonhead that was tryin to rare up on his sister and saying he was chasing does. grin

Sounds bout right to me Brent.

Does Juggy have any pics of dead jakes suitable for framing?

You were funny as heck trying to teach a call maker and turkey killer how to blow mouth calls (YEKRUT), and some of the other guys who are turkeys slayers on here..Im sure they appreciated all your teaching.

Hehehe... I enjoy some good-natured ribbin' from time to time; I think that's what happened today! wink

Re: teaching, nah man... BELIEVE IT OR NOT, there are actually folks on this channel who are 1st/2nd year turkey hunters & have never taken a bird yet... I'd hope that y'all would want them here, too, and I'm pretty sure y'all like to help 'em out; that's all... It's intimidating to be around "seasoned killers"... And hey, as they say, those who CAN'T, teach! wink hehehe

You got that right. I ain't ashamed: http://youtu.be/G2ycn5spTR4 ... I let that first one walk w/the hen side-kick, but when that big group of 'em came out together, one of 'em was gonna bite the dust! All the while, on this hunt, we had a BIG UN (that my brother missed the NEXT day) gobblin' his head off behind us! What we didn't realize was, our neighbors had parked a white pickup on the road in the woods next to us, and that big'un wasn't coming...

That jake tasted FINE that night, fingered up the way BhamFred likes 'em cooked, and I'm glad I took him 'cause he was the only bird we got during that trip... (that's him in my pic)

I'm confused. BGD are you a new turkey hunter or have you been after them for a while? I'll say this, you are taking this aldeer ribbing with ease. Most guys would have threatened to whoop somebody's arse and yekret would have hit them in the face with his ban stick.

Hey guitar dude, you need to sit down and listen to what the all knowing YEKRUT has to say about killing turkeys in our great state of Alabama. It might help to bring pencil and paper too, so you can take notes. The man is a turkey killing machine. Just saying...... beers

I swear I will hide a gps on your truck and spin up a webpage that is nothing but where you are hunting at. It will be like geocaching, but it will be seeing who can find Brent's hunting spots.

Since BGD is going to pen a song about Yekrut, can we get confirmation on the actual pronunciation of the name?

is it pronounced "Yuh-croot"?

"Yeah-krut"

I swear I will hide a gps on your truck and spin up a webpage that is nothing but where you are hunting at. It will be like geocaching, but it will be seeing who can find Brent's hunting spots.

Very bad idee there Yek.

Alot of people don't know this, but "yeek-rut" is an old Native American Indian term that means large cranium.
