I lost 50lbs before I ever stepped foot in the gym or talked to a trainer. I did that on my own to prove a point to myself but I did it almost exactly like that

That's pretty much what I did but the problem is that researching things on the internet generally works like this: article 1 says you should lift high weight, low rep article 2 says low weigh, high rep, article 3 says do 800 squats a day or you will catch AIDS.

I hired "professionals" to help me develop a plan and correct my form but that didn't happen. Hell I still don't know if my deadlift form is worth a crap because they avoided it like the plague.

I told you many times I'll pull out my journals and give you some good building routines.

I kept track of everything. I can help you with form too. I can see I'm gonna have to start lifting again and get this all sorted out. laugh

Problem is I ain't going at 9 pm like you have been. You can't lift to your potential that late. Or I cant, I actually work. I'll go at 4 am or 3pm. grin

What are your goals? I mean are you wanting to just be stronger healthier overall? Are you trying to powerlifting and compete in that? I never competed but enjoyed powerlifting but I wouldn't lift the same powerlifting as I would if I was trying to drop weight and be overall fit.

As it progressed I decided that I want to see exactly how far I can push myself. I've been working with a trainer(s) since December and in mid January I had to sit down with the gym owner to have a talk. My complaint was that they were not training me like I wanted and that they couldn't track my progress. They could tell me I was stronger but they couldn't tell me how.

I knew because I keep a log of everything I lift, everything I eat and every bit of exercise I perform. I put a lot of time into my nutrition, coming up with a training plan (shouldn't they have done this for my off days?) and making my ass get in the gym. When I wasn't seeing any improvement I wanted to know why and I was told "don't worry about it because your diet is good". That wasn't good enough for me so I sat down with the owner and told him exactly how we needed to change my plan.

Fast forward to today: I get to the gym and work with a new trainer. She ASKS me what I want to do today and I ask her if she is crazy. She says upper body and we go to the bench. I sit on the bench and she brings me a set of dumbbells..........................15lb dumbbells. I was nice when I told them where they could shove my remaining training sessions. The owner is a nice guy and was pretty embarrassed about it, along with other things, and gave me a refund after I repeatedly said no thanks. I'll give him credit for that.

Long story short....if you ever decide you want to use a personal trainer then you better interview them and ask a lot of questions about their plans and how they measure success. My experience was bad enough that it almost broke my drive to continue. Sorry for the long post, just felt the need to rant a little.

My only questions in this situation are......Was the female trainer hot and did she wear yoga pants?

This^^^

There are two hundred and forty eleven different plans that work. Just pick one and go. If you want to increase strength/lift heavy, look at a 5x5 type plan.

I was personal trainer through college, you have to find one to fit your style. If they are not teaching you correct form, get a new one. If they can't demonstrate the excersizes properly and help you to work towards your goals, get a new one. Most personal trainers are paid to kick your ass in the gym, efficiently. Yu should get a great workout and see gains or be moving towards your goals. Personal trainers are not dietiticians, in most cases trainers do not determine your diet. That is your responsibility, sounds like you are taking care of that. They are paid to kick your ass and make sure you are doing the excersizes correctly for an hour or however long your workout sessions are. If they are not capable find one who is. Sounds like you have been dealing with some trainers who are just calling it in and going through the motions, when you find a trainer that is a good fit for yur goals you know it! Good luck in finding the correct one and I commend you for taking the initiative to improve your health. thumbup

MOST personal trainers, need personal trainers. Most trainers are just hired off the street. The good ones will look the part and be expensive.

It was rumored you could throw a 12 footer from the prone position.

They gave me a list of supplements and meal plans. Fortunately Rocket62 and NortonZ7 were able to give me some great information in those areas.

Yeah, you need to research the trainers,I had a couple of trainers back in the 90's that weren't worth a flip, their names were Hans and Frans, all they would say is were here to "pump you up",they never would show me anything, they'd just flex and call me a girly man,I fired those two jackasses
