Morgan-

Below in all 3. We killed 3 bucks this year which was better than the last couple years but overall deer sightings were down not only in the woods but on the cameras. I hope its due to the big acorn crop. I couldn't even get my 6 year old son on a doe to just get his first kill. 10 years ago I could have done a walk about and jumped something up to shoot on about any given day.

On Camera - They partied all night and slept all day.
Early - Does come out during the day - Average
Mid - A Few Buck , and the Does started staying in the Brush - Average
Late - Bucks show up and hang out, Does are being cagey - This year a little above Average.
Looks like we kept the Bucks on property this year so hopefully we can harvest them next year.

Any day in the Field is a good day!

Worst year I've ever had for seeing deer but some real stud bucks were taken in the area. Broke loose for a buddy of mine and he and his hunting partner saw 19 on last day but it never did break loose for me. That said, saw terrific buck sign all year. They were scraping before bow season started just never saw the movement.

that being said I'm giving it one more year. If next year is as bad as the last couple of years, I'm seriously considering giving up hunting in Alabama and taking the resources & applying those to a couple of out of state hunts. That's my thoughts on deer hunting here now. It has steadily gone down hill the last 5-8 years or so.

Easy some people on here will get there panties in a wad. If you bad mouth deer hunting in AL. Especially if heaven forbid you say it sucks. I seen it happen first hand. LOL

For me Fayette Co
Does = Average , Below Average. Average
Bucks = Below Average, Below Average, Below average

Mike 35549, my panties aren't in a wad, it is simple economics. The ROI hasn't been there the last 2 years. Why not take my resources and use them where the ROI is present?

I hunted public land in Kentucky the past two seasons and had way better hunting than anywhere I hunt in Alabama. Killed 1 buck and 3 does each for my hunting partner and myself over 4 days of rifle hunting this November. Passed up probably 40 bucks between us, and ended up both killing deer on the last hunt similar to ones that we passed earlier. We found that some of the lesser known WMAs are loaded with deer. Just need to find enough woods close to crop fields, and stay away from the huge WMAs with nothing but hardwoods. Also, when you get a doe up there, you have something. More meat than 2 does around my place. I hunt escambia, Monroe, Wilcox, Limestone, and Morgan counties in Alabama. All private land and each place seems to have lower numbers the past few years.

Early Season - average
Mid-Season - below average
Late Season - well below average

I think that our numbers are stable. But, the combination of warm weather, HUGE mast crop and extremely low water levels made hunting them tough.
Now, that said, I do know that we lost some deer to EHD this past Summer. I watched one die and found another the next day. We have killed 3 bucks with sloughed off hooves and the landowner's dog found two skulls/skeletons on the property. Seems to have hit the older bucks harder?? Or, the evidence points towards a higher mortality in the older age class of deer.
But, at the same time, we had an above average fawn crop and recruitment and a bumper crop of yearling and 2 yr old bucks. It will take a couple of years. But, it will balance back out.

Early Average slightly above

Mid Average

Late Below average

Been tough seeing good deer and any evidence of a rut was a trickle at best in our area.
