Pros and Cons? I've been fishing weightless soft jerk type baits and having a hell of a time getting all the mono stretch out to set the hook good. I can't figure out if it's all the stretch, the the faster action of the rod or getting the hook point out of the bait or a combination of all the above? I'm think braid and a stiffer action rod would definitely help.
Second question is would you spool the whole reel or just top shot the top couple hundred feet? It's a 4000 series reel.

not sure what the best way to handle them is but they shouldnt be on tv and gettn married and raisin kids

I used to throw flukes on braid and spinning gear. I always used the lighter braid though, like 15lb.

haleyville al,
I would go with seugar abrazex 10lb. Is what I use. And yes its plenty. Ive used braid with them but im not a big fan. I use a med action fast action rod. Braid seemed to kill alot of the action to me. How are you setting the hook? I started hooking up alot more by letting the fish load the tip and sweeping the rod. Like you would do with a crankbait. What type of hook are you useing. Keep in mind the lighter the hook the easier it is to set.less to pull through the lip.

Sweeping Hookset is key with a soft jerkbait.

I use a 6'8" medium extra fast spinning setup with 10lb seagur for light wacky rigs and weightless plastics and it does the job well. I tried braid but found the 10lb flouro produces better for me personally.

the only thing I can add is that I personally caught less fish with it. To me it was noticeable that they can see the line even if you use the small diameter/lb stuff. I've used it for bass panfish and stripe.

I use it on a light spinning rig for spots but use a 10lb floro leader. Caught more bass on this rig than any other I own.

I use braid almost exclusively on my spinning outfits. 95% of the time I will tie 8 or 10 feet of mono or flouro leader to it using a fat Alberto knot. Been doing it this way for years

Thats what I've been doing with live bait and it works really well. I have a 6'3" (got 3" cut off in the door :D). I think I'm going to a 7' stiffer rod and lighter line.

The water is usually clear and I can always see the fish take it, I just don't have the damn patience to sweep the set or to take any slack up. I just jerk before they damn bite it.

I use 20# braid and a 15# floro leader for shakey heads on a 6'6" medium action spinning rig. Best way to feel those light bites. I use a slim beauty knot to attach the leader line. If its really clear conditions I can go down to 10# floro (smallest I have).

I tip the braid with floracarbon, usually 12-15, and have had great success with my spinning reels. (even worm fishing)

That's the closest I would ever come to using braid for crappie and that would be only if I had money to burn on fishing line and nothing else and if I only fished for crappie.
