the first decoy I saw, and used, was in Hale Co in fall 1980. First truck that saw it was Sammy Anders, GW in Tusc Co!!! They stopped and wouldn't leave, finally got out of the truck and walked out to the decoy. I was mad as all get out. He talk me I couldn't use the decoy in Tusc Co...I told him to check his map, I was in Hale Co and had it approved. LOL rough start to years of fun ahead.....

We used em off and on in Greene Co and Hale Co, but when I went to Jefferson Co in 1992 we started big time with em. Full mounted deer with moving head and changable antlers. One of mine was attached to a remote control jeep chassis and would "walk" across a gas line!!!!!!

Richard Adkins and I "bought" two of the good ones for $1100 donated dollars from Donnie Russell of McCalla. We got em shot up pretty quick.....

We set up on a complaint in NW Jefferson Co one day, looking for a van that had been road hunting the area. My brother Randy was along as video man and was hid near the road, decoys on a powerline 150 yards off the road. First vehicle was the target van, driving along slowly. I told Richard to get ready as he was stopping. Richard was in the catch vehicle hidden up the road a ways.

Tall lanky guy gets out and unzips and starts pissing, casually looking around. Mid piss he sees the decoys, and still pissing , grabs his rifle and starts shooting. I tell Richard to come on and start towards the fella, yelling for him to stop. He runs that 742 30/06 dry. Richard and I get there together and take his rifle.

He starts some baloney excuse and Richard tells him we have it all on video. He looks at Richard and says, "I guess ya'lll got ol Lazerus on film them?"

Richard never missed a beat, saying"it looked more like a worm to him"......

Randy said he was too close and almost got pissed on.....

Over the years, about how many people did you see take a shot?
Mostly during season or after if was over?
I'm not asking for an exact number or anything just a per year, or per season estimate.

Richard and I set up one night on Hwy 119 near Lake Purdy. Truck comes from Leeds direction, barely slows and shoots the decoy while doing prolly 40mph. Hit it too. We pull out lights on and the chase is on. Late, prolly 2am and no traffic. We're hitting 90+mph as we approach the concrete bridge at Lake Purdy. The shooters truck hits a rise in the road and goes airborne..waaay airborne. I slam the brakes and stiil hit it at 80mph er so. We go airborne, not level, and I thinking this ain't going to end well......

Shooters hit and slow to a roll, stopping at the bridge. WE hit, wiggle hard left right a couple of times and straighten out and pull up to them. I bail with my shotgun and get em out of the truck at gun point and secure the scene.

AS I'm writing up one of them I see he has pissed his pants. I figger it was the shotgun and apologize for scaring him. He says no prob, it was the fifty yard flight that did it!!!!!

Turns out they threw the shotgun out the window and it hit barrel first and discharged when it hit.....only time a shot was fired in a chase. LOL

JC, we videoed most all of the shots fired, maybe 80-100 incidents?

99% during season, half day, half night.

Rouleau holds the record for best stop, they set up Foxworthy at one of the charity hunts down there.

We set up on day West Jefferson Co. Truck came by, saw the decoy and stopped. Guy gets out, grabs rifle and loads it, all on video. A vehicle comes by and he lays rifle in truck. Vehicle clears and he pulls the rifle out again as another vehicle approaches. He hides the rifle again.

By this time ol Einstein has smelt a rat and gets nervous. Unloads the rifle and puts it in the truck. He turns and yells "Ya'll can't catch me that easy , you AS####es". Richard goes bumper up with him and I walk out from behind, still filming. I tell him the proper name is MR AS####le" to you.

Taking the rifle out and loading it on the road got him a road hunting ticket.

The whole time I writing him he is saying " I swear to GOD I didn't load that gun". prolly said it 15 times. I finally show him the video of him plainly loading the gun and tell him if he says that again I'm going to hit him in the mouth.

Troy, what kind of vehicle did y'all have. Was it a police inceptor or a stock pick up truck? How many did you go thru in your career chasing these outlaws in high speed pursuit and off road?

Rouleau set one up on a buddy of mines place one night. But buddy's dad forgot to tell him. We'll about 12am buddy is about to turn off Co Rd 7 onto his place. Sees decoy. Unloads 4 perfectly placed 243 rds. Finally realizes what's up and kneels down on centerline with hands up in the air. Case never was pursued thank goodness due to his dad failing to let him know it was put in their hayfield that night.

We set up one night near present Home Depot on 280, on a dead end road. First car comes by and stops as soon as the lights hit the decoy. They just sat there. and sat there. and sat there. Usually IF they are going to shoot it will be pretty fast. I walk up to the car from behind and it is a guy and girl. The guy is telling the girl all about all he knows about deer(mostly wrong) like some kind of expert. I just stand there, maybe four feet from the guys window as he expounds on deer behavior and why the deer is paralyzed by the headlights on it......

I finally say in a loud voice, "Its a decoy". I think both of em had to change underwear....

We set up one night on the Birmingport Hwy, light rain coming down. We hid pretty close to the decoy. First truck comes by, sees the decoy and SLAMS on he brakes doing prolly 60MPH. Goodgoogly moogly...he spins out, goes around prolly 3-4 times and hits the ditch. We go pull him out of the ditch, no damage to truck or driver.

We load the decoy and go look for calmer waters.....

We set up in the same spot later (when I wasn't raining). Truck pulls up and stops right across from, I'm on the ground with the camera, maybe 40 FEET from him. Driver gets out and pulls a rifle from behind the seat. Passenger, drinking a beer, says it ain't real. Driver says it is and loads gun. Passenger says it ain't real. I move the head and driver blasts it. LOL I walk over to the truck and tell him to put the gun on the ground. Passenger tells him I told you it wasn't real....

I get license from shooter and the passenger hands me his also, I hand it back and tell him he isn't getting a ticket, I heard him tell the guy not to shoot!!!!

Gun was a Legenday Lawman 30/30.....LOL

They drove up in the truck, blue lights on and got Foxworthy out of the shooting house , cuffed him, and told him he was under arrest for destroying state property and headed to jail with him. Foxworthy didn't smell the rat till they got back to camp and everyone was cutting up....

Warden in Hale Co set up on Co Rd 50, heading east out of Moundville. Set the decoy behind a five strand barbed wire fence, and maybe 20 yards off the road. Fella in a truck had no gun, sop he drove the truck thru the fence and ran over the decoy!!!!!

A year er so late same GW set up near to there, decoy behind another fence, but drug a log up in front of the decoy.....same result. Fella drove thru the fence, over the log, and smashed the decoy.....
