I was wondering if anyone thinks hunting deer with dogs will ever be done away with in Alabama? I used to hunt with them some when I was younger but don't care for it now. I would rather get out in the woods and scout and hunt the deer. Just more skill and some luck involved vs turning dogs loose and waiting for one to run by you. Also it seems to me the deer wouldnt be as pressured as they are with people running dogs 3, 4, 5 times or more a week blowing up the woods. I think the deer could develop a more normal pattern of movement instead of being chased all the time. You would be able to see more deer in the daylight hours, bucks especially. (I know they have strict seasons and bag limits in the midwest but I dont they they allow it in most states. I could be wrong though. Seems to me that would help contibute to seeing more bucks in daylight hours.) It may never happen here but I would be glad if it was done away with. I believe it would only help the development of more mature and bigger bucks.

You so full of shucks with your "reasoning" it's unreal.. DO you have any dog clubs beside you? Are they breaking any laws?? People like you is what sucks about the hunting world. Yall are a bunch of pansies, that want the whole state to do what "they" want.. I bet you got a college education also... Your a DAM fool if you will be glad when they do away with someones hunting rights....

To answer the question....no I don't think it will be outlawed totally. It may be restricted some more over the years but it seems that most dog hunting groups these days now realize it can be taken away and are doing a better job of policing their own and trying to be better neighbors. If this doesn't continue then it could be but hopefully not for their sake.

I don't think you have hunted parts of Colbert County where "some" of the dog groups hunt every body's property. Pretty sorry excuse for something they call hunting. BTW-I am a member in the oldest dog hunting club in Colbert County and our level of participation in the dog hunts goes down every year. We traditionally have three big hunts a year. The hunt on Friday after Christmas this year saw three members show up. Ten years ago there would have been at least 20 hunters on this hunt. Folks now days like hunting one on one with the deer they are seeking. I look for more restrictions in Colbert in the near future because of certain groups that just run ramshod across everything they want to. There are already several clubs that want dogs restricted in all of Colbert County. I don't want to give up any privileges as a hunter, but the Wardens are just stretched too far to enforce the laws here.

Nope I have not hunted in Colbert county. That is not a good situation and it will probably lead to more restrictions. The club I am in has great relations with our neighbors and law enforcement personnel. We had one of of Wardens-Chad Howell address our club at our October meeting. It was great getting to meet him and talk with him. He told us one club that is very close to us had received numerous complaints about their hunting. It gives a black eye to everyone who tries to do right.

Never have been dog hunting. Coon hunted many a night and it's fun to fellowship as your hunting and to see the dogs work. The main problem besides the keeping your dogs contains is this. People do not feel that they can kill trophy bucks running dogs! If people started killing 150 inch deer in front of dogs everyone would sell their climbers and invest in dog boxes. People feel that still hunting gives them the best chance to kill a trophy deer bottom line. Now I'm dumb when it comes to dogs Daniel can help us out along with others. Start posting some of the big deer that you guys are killing and be an advocate for that part of the sport and it will take off. I have no idea if dog hunters kill big bucks or not. I do know the stereo type is they shoot whatever thru jump once again I've never been and can't comment so please don't blast me on this one. I wasn't fussing about not liking dog hunting. It's the total banning it idea that's stupid. I'll round up some pics of "good" bucks that I know for a fact was killed in front of dogs. No matter what style hunting you prefer. None of it needs to be outlawed and we all can do better. Especially doggers. That's why my dogs has over $1000 in electronics everytime they hit the ground. We all can do better some way or another for sure.

Start posting some of the big deer that you guys are killing and be an advocate for that part of the sport and it will take off. I have no idea if dog hunters kill big bucks or not. That is a great idea! I have no clue about the difference in still and dog hunting as far as kill data. I would guess dog hunting is if it runs by it gets shot at. Is there a kill on everyday you have a dog drive? Do you have clubs that only shot bucks? How many man hours does it take to get a deer? Do you still or stalk hunt the club during the week? By the end of the year does everyone in the club kill a couple? While I have never hunted with dogs and I have lots of yard dogs around my lease that make me want to kill everyone. (never killed one) I am not trying to be a SA, I just would like to know some facts.
