Pm me a day or two ahead. I might come meet you with my son. At least we'lol both know somebody. Wouldn't mind trying it myself.

Jeff Dute (outdoor writer for Mobile Register and occasional poste on here, also has a Facebook) should be able to give you the lay of the land. Failing that, call the Five Rivers Delta Resource Center and ask for a regional biologist. They run the things when they happen.

Actually I had the WL Holland (Delta WMA north of I 65) in mind, but Boykin would work as well, I guess.

Robert,
I haven't personally been on the Upper Delta dog hunt, but I know several people who have and based on their description its a wonder someone hasn't been killed. Absolutely no order and LOT's of buckshot flying.
One friend of mine went a couple years ago and said he could see 3 other standers from a separate group within 100 yds or so of the stand he was put on. Deer run through the group and 2 of them started shooting. From what I've heard it is total chaos and no organization. They do kill some good deer though.

Thats the way all wma dog hunts are now . It used to be the warden would set standers but now its every man for himself and when you have a bunch of bloodthirsty rednecks you can imagine how that cluld go . But at the blue springs hunt we went to last year evrybody was pretty courteous !

I went to blue springs but it has been years ago. It was pretty much a free for all. We just went in the woods and people were letting dogs out everywhere. I wouldn't mind going just to bring my kids since they have never been on a dog hunt.

Scotch has a very well organized dog hunt the gw will pass out maps with stand numbers you could ask for as little as two standers or a group of forty standers it doesn't matter. The January hunts are usually the best dog hunts and it's in Clarke county not very far from your area.

X2 on Scotch. I went a few years back and it was extremely well organized. I was really skeptical goin but once it started I felt really safe. Kudos to the staff there who handle this hunt!

I used to hunt them all. Scotch, upper delta, blue springs , and Boykin. I've killed deer on all but Boykin. The Boykin hunt was the first hunt our group stopped hunting. It was the least safe of them and no deer. Actually had a buddy get shot there but that can happen anywhere. The upper delta was good for us because we stalk hunted it. We would just go sit on a crossing and wait. The deer would come sooner or later. We went by boat mainly. The blue springs hunt was my favorite probably. It was dog driving haven. Usually Doe or buck at this hunt also. The scotch hunt is by far the moat organized but they only do a morning and afternoon hunt. You must stay on stand till it's over. The wardens pass out stands and you go to this stands. Sometimes though you may never hear a dog bark and sometimes you may have them running all around you. You have the opportunity to kill a trophy up there also. The wardens are at all of them especially blue springs and scotch they male regular apperances. Upper delta they are few and far between but they usually stick to the group or two that's gonna shoot does and such. If it was me and was going without a group it would be for sure scotch. Sometimes you can talk yourself into a group since there is a meeting place for everyone to join. Don't worry bout hunters. There's a bunch but also alot of dogs and lots of land. Pm me if any questions. I used to hunt them religiously. Haven't though in a few years.

Which one? Scotch. nothing to it. Just go up there and get with a group or just turn loose in one of there blocks they are standing. Usually it's a bunch of blocks. There game wardens up there in the past were very helpful. You may be able to call em. There will literally be 500 plus up there. Get with a group as you know there are never enough dogs and TURN EM LOOSE!!

You can kill deerat blue springs or upper without a group or dogs. Blue springs would be the easiest in my opinion. Just get you a bucket or seat and go sit in a bottom. There are plenty and sooner or later dogs will come. Just wear a vest and hat of orange. I can maybe look at some maps and give you some direction on where I'd go sit. Blue springs has a bunch of folks that just cast and not drive so there's always folks on roads riding. The man is bad up there though. Federal and state. Where a seat belt on the good roads.

I went up to the Scotch hunt a few weekends ago. This was the first WMA dog hunt I had been on. It seemed to very organized and everyone seemed real nice to a first timer. Even had one fellow take me in with his group and took me the a stand and showed me where to be. The next dog hunt will be the 9th and 10th of January. I plan on going on the 10th. We may have to all get together and and have a aldeer group. LOL!!!

DW, I already have one guy that is gonna keep his dogs at my house for the hunt. You might as well come on down and go. The Scotch WMA is only about 15 miles from the house. And, they kill a couple of really nice bucks every year on the dog drives!

The Scotch dog hunt is very well organized,I haven't done it in 3-4 years but they have the same wardens.I have heard some real bad stories about the Delta Hunt,it is very unorganized.I quit doing the Boykin Hunt years ago because of to many dogs coming up missing.I have never done the Blue Springs hunt but have been told it is not that bad.If you go to Scotch try to get with a group that has dogs, most of them will be glad to let you hunt with their group. The main thing on any hunt, dog or stalk,is to use common sense,if you don't think it is safe either say something or get out of that situation.I would recommend getting there early and get in line to get signed in,there is usually between 400-600 people at the Scotch Hunt.

Be safe & have fun
