Good one is Gordon from Pickens Co. Worst piece of crap ever is Mark Jolly. Not sure where he is now. Yep Gordon Gordon the game warden as he is known. Good and fair, never had a problem with him when I hunted south of Aliceville.
I love my country, but don't trust my government.

I will have to agree that Jimmy Jones, is one of the best outdoorsmen there is . He could sneak up behind you in the middle of a 40 acre open field. I encountered him a few times when I was younger and he was friendly but professional . Jimmy could run as fast and as long as any Lawman I know. From my recollection he only stopped to catch his breath once in a short hilly marathon he and I ran one time. Another GW that falls into the great outdoorsman mold is Joe Carroll . I think he is still working Henry county. Richard Reed, is also a good guy that did his job with a high degree of professionalism The South East corner of Alabama has a lot of very good Game and Fish officers. If I'm not mistaken, Jimmy played football for Auburn and still holds some kind of record there. He could flat out fly back in the day. Joey Carroll and his partner Larry Doster are both good men and are both originally from Dale county. We are very fortunate to have the quality wardens we have in our area.

Jimmy Jones was a field goal kicker for Auburn and held points record. He used to carry a college football card of him in his GW truck over the visor. He was a nice and funny guy (pretty good taxidermist too) I haven't seen him in 6 or 7 years. He owned Rattlers Taxidermy in ozark. He told me one time "I know that I mount some deer that was killed illegal and people think it's funny. That's ok though, they can pay me now and pay me later when i catch them". Yep, I've heard that story myself!! LOL!! Jimmy was great to sit back and hear the stories...

Thad Holmes really rubbed me the wrong way. A buddy and I had shot a limit of ducks, and had met at a gas station that morning before the hunt to put his gear in my truck and boat. Well Thad sees us unloading my buddies stuff and putting it into his truck. He comes over and is fairly polite to begin with. He asks how we did, and I show him the birds.
He then proceeds to tell us that we have shot to many of a certain species. I told him we had not. He then proceeds to argue with my buddy and I over the ID of the birds (getting more and more rude as this situation goes on). I had to go into my truck, get own duck ID book and show him how to identify the birds. He had no idea what he was looking at, it was obvious, yet he still wanted to argue. He finally agreed with us, reluctantly, and went on about his business.
It just bothers me that a Game Warden would go out of his way to harass hunters, when he obviously has no idea what he is even looking at. If ducks werent his expertise, thats fine, but dont come give me a hard time for no reason.
I never mind being checked, but basically being called a criminal, when i've done nothing wrong will piss me off every time.
Turkeys be damned.

Richard Knox in Pickens was another good one. I heard he wrote is son up for no license.
He was straighter than an arrow. Good man. One afternoon he had backed into an old dim road to watch for road hunters. He had a dummy deer setup in the edge of a clear cut. My father-in-law shot it twice from his climber that was before he realized what it was. He and Richard had a laugh from that. Richard lived just down the road and they even went to the same church.
(FIL was legal, He was on his land and deer was far enough from the road. If Richard had put it a little closer I am sure he would have written my FIL up for shooting too close to a road. I think dummy deer was 75 yards away from the road)
I love my country, but don't trust my government.

Man grabs me by the ear, he fixin to get clocked.

I was trying to think of Robert Hills name earlier, one tough BIG man that spoke what he was thinking without a PC thought about it.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

He was the kind of man that really cared about folks and did not want to see kids make mistakes that will follow them their entire lives! That said.....he was also a BIG man, and much of one, in his day! LOL He still lives right down the road from me. He and my Dad went to School and played ball together. They are still friends and talk regular today. My Dad got ONE phone call from Robert about some of my 'extra-curricular' activities while I was in High School.....ONE! My Dad knew that Robert was serious and let me know in no uncertain terms that he was too!

I'd wager Robert Hill was one of the very best GWs ever to work in Alabama.

Second day of gun season in 2010 got out of bed when nobody else would and killed my deer of a lifetime in Dallas County 220 pound 10-point. Been hunting 40 years and finally got a nice one. Headed home excited as could be stopped in Thomasville to use the bathroom and get a drink. The lady at the gas station saw the deer and asked me about it. I was telling her the story, I was so excited as a tall black guy stands there listening. She asks if she can see it so we go to my truck. I am on cloud 9. The black guy follows us out. The lady and I talk for a few more minutes and she walks off. That is when he says "Ok its my turn". He flashes a badge from under his coat that is on his belt. I thought I'm legal; then I remembered I didn't fill out the back of my license. My excitement is shattered. I hand him my license and tell him I forgot. He tells me the only chance I have is if I have got a pen in my truck to fill it out; if not I'm getting a ticket. I turned from disappointment to anger. He saw how excited I was and I felt he was just trying to ruin my day. I knew I had a pen but at this point I told him sir just do whatever you need to do. Anyway he handed me his pen and I filled it out and went on my way. I was wrong I know but he didn't have to be that way either.
