My biggest mistake as a new hunter was getting too serious. I worried about scent control way too much and watched all these shows that claimed I'd have to kill a big buck to feel accomplished.
Finally I realized that the only important accomplishment for me was to actually get out in the woods. Enjoy fresh air. Appreciate the sight of leaves falling one by one. Listen to birds and watch the sky change.
Ever since I stopped caring about antlers is when I truly fell in love with hunting. On top of that I love venison and cooking so I get great satisfaction from killing the "dumb" deer (does). Nothing better than relaxing and watching them come out into a green field to meet their fate.
