Guys, Gus is far from perfect. But to say that offense has been the issue is just silly.

In the case of the aTm game I think they started both halves with a turnover on top of ending the 1st half with a blocked kick for a TD.

The defense was obviously ready to play Clanga. Forced a punt on the opening drive and they had 3 straight drives where they intercepted Prescott. 6 of Clanga's 7 drives in the second half ended with a punt or turnover.
The problem was three of their scoring drives started inside the Barn 35 due to turnovers.

The defense was ready to play Bama. That first half and the first few minutes of the second half was a pretty good job by the defense.
Had the offense put it away then Ellis still has a job.

You're wasting your time, Dustin. Gus is perfect...zero flaws whatsoever. A simple change in defensive coordinators will fix it all. LOL

The standard Auburn coaching rapid flameout has begun, and once again, they don't even see it happening. Gus didn't even make it as long at Tater Tot did before the tumble began.

Just sit back, and enjoy the carnage.

What all needs fixing? They were in every game but georgia. Is Alabama in shambles because they struggled against Ole Miss, LSU, Arkansas and Auburn? The only team Alabama gives up 5 and 600 yards to is AU so I think Alabama is alright in the big picture.

Auburn went up by 12 early in the second half after being given a gift by Blake. After that, they proceeded to get outscored 35-3. Yes, Bama's offense took over, but there was absolutely no answer whatseover from Gus' offense...none. What's the excuse for that?

Bama's defense adjusted to Gus at halftime by run blitzing and bringing speed rushers, Tim Williams and Rashaan Evans. Same thing UGA did in the 4th qtr last year, and the entire game this year. FSU did in the second half of the BCSNC last year. Kansas State did it. It's a formula that works against Gus' offense.

Nothing needs fixing, bill. Gus is perfect. Best coach ever. Zero flaws offensively.

Did you watch the second half of the game, by the way?

I agree that the Alabama defense played some great ball but I'll admit in the last couple of losses for Alabama the offense was just as much to blame as the defense. You can't continually put your defense in a bad spot and expect to win.

What other games can you complain about over the past two years? Are you actually going to throw Johnson under the Gus Bus after going 13-1 last year?

What other games this year are you going to complain about?
Sakerliner and OBC going all Play Station and going for it on every drive?

Ol Miss game where they stopped them 3 or 4 times in the 4th Qtr?

The only game I would maybe show concern over would be Jawja but that was just a team wide ass whoopin. The Alabama game was another team effort. If the offense completes one or two drives for a TD then maybe it's a different story.

I hope if Alabama ever gives up 40 points and a crap load of yards they fire their Defensive Coordinator as well. [/sarcasm]

Hb, No one's said that. Not sure why you can't discuss it without getting bent out of shape. Sure, AU could convert more red zone touchdowns but they generally score plenty of points. Much more than average.

Dustin, just because AU won all those games last year doesn't mean they shouldn't be looking to change and improve. I seem to remember many Alabama fans calling for a change in the special teams coaches. If Alabama had just scored more special teams wouldn't be a concern, right?

How about Tamu...one billion yards exactly in the first half by a true freshman. You have already mentioned the cocks and UAT, perhaps even the final 90 seconds of 2013? No way that should have happened.

Auburn fans are touchy about Gus that's for sure. Gus is a GREAT offensive coach but the DC's in the sec are pretty dang good too and Gus is going to have to adapt and change as the defenses catch up to his offense. Saban changed. He had Alabama built to beat power running teams. And then HUNH came along and we couldn't stop it because bama wasnt built to stop it. Saban started recruiting a different size and style of defensive players and he changed his offense. Bama incorporates no huddle now. Sure auburn needs a better defense but Gus also has to prove that he is innovative and not be hard headed. Sec defenses have caught up to HUNH as we new they would.

Southwood, Malzhans offense just put up 500 plus yards on Ole Miss and 600 plus on Alabama. Those are two of the best defenses in the nation. I'm not sure how much more innovative he needs to be unless he is going up against the Ravens.

No one's bent out of shape, bill. I find it comical that y'all aren't willing to put ANY blame on Gus. Heck, I have the opinion that Gus' style of offense is as tough on his own defense as it is on the other teams' defense. Defensive coordinators are set up to fail. Ellis Johnson was a pretty good coordinator at USC. What happened between there and Auburn? Ted Rood did a decent job at Penn State and is doing a good job at Ga Tech now. Being a defensive coordinator under Gus is very difficult..even for the best...due to the offensive style he employs.

Muschamp might take the Auburn job...but I bet that's in the back of his mind. Same reason I don't think he'll take the A&M job, either.

A&M scored 6 points in the second half. Can't really blame the defense for that.

As terrible as A&M's defense was this year, why didn't Auburn simply outscore them?

They fired their dc too, ya know. wink

That is my point exactly. The second half defense has been very decent. If the offense was tiring them out so much that wouldn't be the case. They just aren't prepared in the first half of games.

Bama and auburn are both averaging 489 yards a game. 16 and 17 in the nation. Alabama is ranked 5 in the nation in scoring defense auburn is 61. Auburns offense is still great but other sec teams, most notably their in state rival have caught up, and are still playing pretty good defense. With offenses like Miss state, ole miss, tamu, Alabama etc.. Auburn can't hang their hat on outscoring sec teams every week. So, yes the defense has to get better. But I think Auburn fans have their head in the sand if they don't think defenses are better at containing his HUNH attack. 4-4 in the sec can't all be blamed on the defense.
