They were blowing up the woods where I was, I missed a doe around 7 this morning, she was 20 yds from me before I saw her, next thing I knew she was licking the tree I was in! She finally saw me flench, blew, trotted off to the next ridge before I could stop her, I felt like I made a good shot but it was thick and must've killed a branch instead.

Saw 7 this morning. No shot on the does I saw. Did see a wide four point that had one brow tine, but I couldn't convince myself he was legal. I've got better on the wall anyway. Also saw a yote puppy running like he was on fire. I got him to stop and had the crosshairs on him, but couldn't do it. He was all of 10lbs maybe.. I'm assuming his fellow running mates were killed in the barrage of bullet being slung around me. May venture out there Monday and see if I can't whack one of the does I saw today.

I live within rock throwing distance of the WMA. I've been seeing them in my driveway for the past several days. Some chasing is starting to happen. Watched a spike feed around yesterday in the rain. His neck was swollen and hocks were dark.

What general area are you in? Maybe I can point you towards where I've been seeing alot of chasing.

Unless it's changed the deer on the mountain in the long leaf area were usually in full rut around thanksgiving give or take a few days. I did not see as many deer in that area but the ones I saw were bigger. One of the biggest bucks I have ever seen while hunting was on that mountain. I would go days between seeing deer though; just the ones I saw were worth it to keep going back for. I will prob hunt some up that way later in the week myself. I used to hunt it a lot until I moved but still hunt it a few days each year.

Thx for the heads up and I can agree it can be a very frustrating place to hunt. Just needed some reinforcements to give me the energy to hit those mountains. Gl to you guys and I'll keep you updated. Heading out w a buddy in a few. Can't wait until Saturday and those guns get em moving

I've hunted one spot off 540 for the last 5 years and I can't tell you the last time I hunted it and didn't see at least one deer. All the deer I see are within a 200 yard radius traveling a specific ridge and a specific finger that isn't as high as the ones to the left and the right of it (these fingers seem to be where I see most activity throughout Chocc.) You just have to put the leg work in and find these specific areas. Zone B is about the same terrain wise except over near hwy. 281 entrance, the hills are more rolling than steep. Now if you venture up onto Bains Gap you better be in shape.

Went again this afternoon with no luck, signs, etc. gets hard to hit those hills to watch squirrels chase. Might look at zone a next year. Don't know terrain so would need to scout before I go or I'd be there this year
