Most people like a short gun to turkey hunt, I have never cared for one and usually shoot a 26". If it was going to be a dual purpose I would get a pump mossberg with the tactical stock on it I guess. I would just buy a turkey gun and use a pistol for home defense. A pistol is much easier to maneuver in a house.

How about a 870, you can make it like you want it. Best for all situations.
Do you want to hear him gobble, or do you want to kill him.

Sounds like you are describing something like this. Mossberg tactical Turkey. Twenty inch barrel but with an after market turkey choke you are going to add about 2 inches to that length. I have one and don't worry you do not need a long barreled shotgun to throw a good killing pattern for turkeys. Mine with a Jellyhead choke will put over 200 pellets inside 10 inches at 40 yards with either Nitros or Heavy 13 7's. And will put 160's inside 10 at 40 with Winchester Extended Range 6's. That's way more than a lethal dose for any turkey. For home defense with buckshot I'd screw a more open internal choke into it and you are good to go.

Todd, It looks like it is between the Mossberg Tactical Turkey and the Remington Super Mag Max Gobbler. Can anyone give me $300 worth of reasoning in going with the Remington over the Mossberg?

but its the best patterning Turkey gun I've ever seen. That's why I got one. It does kick but I never notice recoil when killing a turkey. I have a 870 too and it is a tigher feeling gun with a little less rattle. Whether that's worth an extra 300 bucks is a matter of personal opinion. Both function flawlessly.
