They never saw that many yotes either and they sure didnt realize the trapper would catch 60 in 3 weeks. I think it may be a compounded issue, a little bit of everything and it just hit all at once. I am glad though that they see the issue and that its a serious one.

I live on our place, we don't see them, hear them. We run cams year round and get a total of 2 or 3 a year on cam I guarantee you have coons and they can be detrimental to eggs and poults. Add that to foxes, possums, bobcats, coyotes, and birds of prey and it is tough to be a turkey. Predator populations cycle as well and when you have lots of prey, the predators will increase. So just because you don't see them, it doesn't mean that they aren't there. It is just hard for me to believe if there was a massive die off that there wasn't piles of dead turkey remains found.

That was what I was getting at in my original post AU about you being on to something, the wildlife biologist basically told my buddy word for word what you said. A huge population boom in turkey would naturally bring about a boom in their predators being it yotes, coons, etc.. or diseases that naturally take care of over population. I'm not saying it's one way or the other just repeating what a WB looking at the issue said. I'll be as glad as anyone when it gets back right (I want my son to experience what I did), I'd move to southern Tennessee if it wasnt so far a drive for me to work. Ill also ask a guy at work if he has heard anything, his dad is credited with being one of the main guys to bringing the turkey population to what it was several years back.
