I had a flat tire right there one time when I was a teenager. I never changed a tire so quickly in my life.

Hide wheelers and golf carts in a pine thicket, never lock your camper door bc they will tear up a 500$ door to get 50$ worth of crap.

I never understood why folks leave expensive items at hunt camp with zero supervision. Theft is rampant, especially at a prime target like that. Ezpz for a thief. Sorry for your loss but folks need to get smarter about these things.

I've had some trouble on 29 before..Honestly ur safer there than Prichard or downtown mobile there's still some good folk around up there....But if you had a flat by the Old grocery store by the Gees bend ferry sign I'd rode that mutha on the rim!

They hit our camp in Russell Cty about a month ago. Broke out camper windows and stole anything of value including one 4 wheeler. They staged two utility trailers in the woods to come back for later, which they did: I was at camp with my bro-in-law two nights later when they came again. They noticed my camper lights on and took off. I was prepared to react and was the closest ever in my life to shooting someone that night. Funny how you make your mind up and resign to doing what needs to be done. Funny thing is- one guy left his camper unlocked and they still broke out his window!

Sorry for your loss but folks need to get smarter about these things. Sorta like they were asking for it, huh? That mentality is why we have so many thieves in some areas. I would beat a man half to death for taking an empty can out of the back of my truck. The folks that need to get smarter are the ones who take things that aren't theirs and those who would justify their actions. Don't blame the victim.

Make sure you have trail cameras hid real good and that work watching the camp area. I have cameras watching cameras now. The tiny W2 has a black box you can stash away from the cam so if they steal the cam the pics are safe somewhere else. Idea anyway.

We're gonna do that now..Amazingly there's only one other thing that's been stolen in 23years! And that was another 4wheeler..Before they moved there they had a old house down the road..They installed new cabinets fridge & range & also a new sink, came back everything including the kitchen cabinets was gone! They laugh about it now..

Some of the guys leave 4 wheelers at one of my clubs unlocked all year! I always look to see if they're still there when I drive by the camp! We've never had anything stolen but I never leave anything there overnight!

A camp close to our's got hit hard last season. They had cameras up and all they caught was a Ford Ranger with tag covered up and a thief in camo head to toe with netting over his head.
They posted pics of the truck all over, but nothing ever came of it.

I had not heard of Herbert Hall Wlkerson in a LOOOOOOng time. I used to go hunting quail down there with my dad way back in the day. Heard a lot of stories about him. Mind you, this was in the early 60's and things were different in Gee's Bend during that era. The was I heard it Mr Wilkerson's Grand Dad won Gee's Bend in a poker game on a steam boat up river from Montgomery. You could drive across the old fields and still feel the rows from when they grew cotton 100 years before. I do remember that Mr. Wilkerson did like a drink once in awhile, and had a young man of color who stood by his side and never let his glass get empty. He ran some fine bird dogs trained by Clyde Morton from Sedgefields Plantation. I don't guess we will ever see bird hunting like that again. I remember riding in a mule pulled wagon watching the dogs lock up every 20 minutes or so. I met Mr. Clyde one time and it was more impressive to me than meeting Bear Bryant. If I could hunt Quail like that again, I wold give up all the Deer and Turkeys in Alabama. I truly wish Will, my grandson could have the experience of having a covey of around 50 birds explode under his feet, and not a tame bird in fifty miles. Not many people get to see two pointers locked down on a covey, not moving, one honoring the other until the trainer lets them go to hunt dead. Good old days long gone.
Let us cross over the river and rest in the shade of the trees Stonewall Jackson Hug your loved ones often, Life is short even on its longest days. I don't see the glass as half full or half empty. I just finish it and order another.

That is one bad area. A few years ago I leased 240 acres that bordered Jake Peaveys place there in Alberta. I told my son we didn't need to ride 4 wheelers except to get deer out just walk in to hunt. We would pull in about 100yds behind locked gate and park truck and walk from there. One Friday evening Dylan and a friend went up to hunt and unlocked gate pulled in and locked gate back. They pulled in, but where they stopped a little of the trailer and four wheeler could still be seen from County dirt road. they walked in to hunt and when they got back they had walked around gate unloaded 4 wheeler (Honda Foreman) and pushed it out to road and loaded it up. Brave or crazy sumbitches knowing people in woods with guns. what I really liked was when black deputy sherrif came out to fill out report he told me Mr. Godwin I know where your 4 wheeler is its right there around Alberta, what the hell I quess I was supposed to go find it myself.

Well we talked to pops one of the founding members this morn..He pulled the screws off the shed latch, we installed new locks on there last week & he wasn't there to get a key..And the caretaker wasn't there with his..So the only thing stole was the 4wheeler & trailer..
