Painting with a broad brush here but I would think that if one could name ALL the members of a band (even if you're not a fan of the music or band) you could call that band a super group. For example, I would bet 75% of folks on here could name the members of groups like Led Zeppelin, U2, Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, and The Police. Some other huge groups we could name the frontman or maybe a few members like The Eagles, Journey, Pink Floyd, The Who, and Lynard Skynard but would u classify such bands as super groups?
Many ways to define a super band but this is just my opinion.

The common definition of "super group" is a group of musicians that were previously accomplished in other groups or had successful solo careers and they come together to collaborate on a project. The Highwaymen would be an example of a "super group". It may mean something else to others, but this is the context in which I've commonly heard it used.

Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Van Halen, Iron Maiden, Steely Dan, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who are all other good examples.
