Anyone heard of a documented case of a free range deer harvested by spear in Alabama? I know the guy in Summerdale harvested all types of game with a spear, but I wasn't sure if he harvested a whitetail in Alabama. I was just curious if it has been acomplished.

I know of a doe killed in Burntcorn with a spear the first or second year it was legal.

I met a guy down here in Orange Beach that claimed that was the only way he hunted.. Said he would sit in a tree and drop the spear or throw the spear

as someone who has actually tried to kill a deer with a spear I cannot begin to describe how difficult it is. Just what are the odds of A deer walking straight under your stand so you can drop the spear?? And the hard, fast arm movement to launch a spear sends every deer within 50 yards into a flight frenzy. Piggly Wiggly is your friend....

I'm giving it a shot this year. I found a place where I think it may be possible. It's a small drainage in the middle of some 10 year old cuttover that was never replanted. I assume the drainage was wet at the time and they couldn't get the equipment in there. It's dry now and there about about 10 pin oaks. I put a lockon in one of the pin oaks so I'm going to give it a shot the next couple days if I can get the wind right.

I read an article in the Huntsville Times several years ago about an older guy that killed a spike with a spear. He did it from the ground. Said that he was behind a big rock right on a trail. Heard him coming and got ready and stuck him as soon as he saw him. The guy said that he would go to great extremes to control scent, including not eating meat for 2-3 days before hunting. I don't know if that helped but I was impressed with his success.

I had seen an episode of Relentless Pursuit where Tim Wells killed a sho' nuff stud buck with a spear. Just found the video of it on youtube called "Monster Buck spear kill". Looks incredibly difficult to pull off but really cool
