I'm with Doekiller & Clem on this one. as long as my boys are respectful, mindful, considerate and do their best in school I will give them some slack on their individuality. I do make them earn the privilege though. Individuality is important and I believe my son has some of that. But he ain't getting no slack from my mouth when he looks like an idiot. He can go out looking like that but he's definitely gonna hear me laughing when I see him. I ain't big on hitting kids but they catch a heluva lot of ridicule and scorn when they step outside my expectations.

I dont let them wear hats indoors much less those damn straitbilled "attack hats". If they are in my office with a hat on I snatch it off their heads and run it through the paper shredder, then I taze and pepper spray them till they stop complaining. If they complain to my boss about how I tazed them I go to their house and shoot their dog. I can't stand a damn straight-billed hat especially indoors and in my office. What do you do again? Oh I'm just an archaeologist. You work for a school though don't you? Yes I do, and I am just messing with folks. I really dont give a damn what someone wears or what they look like. I look a lot stranger than most folks everyday of the week. I just figured if you taught around Luverne you'd be happy with the kids not coming to school barefoot wearing pajama pants
We will burn that bridge when we get there

If my kid makes good grades, works hard, is mannerly and he wants to wear his hat with a straight bill, so be it.
My son wore his straight but didn't iron it super flat. I didn't mind seeing him on the mound with his " straight brim" as he won the Pat Trammel award at SHS for highest GPA of any male athlete. A big deal and an honor at SHS. I've never had to get him outa jail either.

Stob nailed it.That should be the end of the debate IMHO. With the stereotype that if you wear a straight billed hat you are a punk? A lot of things change over the years, and if we based character on the clothes people wear and didn't accept the fact that fashion changes over the years, we would all still be wearing powdered wigs and capri pants.

Like he said it's the mindset. It don't make you a punk but it damn sure is the first small step of influence.Lots of great kids including myself fell by the wayside by taking little bits of the wrong influence.Take a perfectly good potato and put it in a bag of rotten taters and in 24 hrs you have one more rotten tater.

I think there are two groups that wear them flat punks/ Obama supporters and baseball players. The kids my son played with over the years were almost all great kids, no problems, couple of turds, but they were outcasts for the most part. If the only thing a ball player is doing is wearing a straight billed cap, you don't have a problem. BTW, you can line up a bunch of kids with straight bill caps on and if you've been around baseball much , you can go down the line separating the punks from the ball players. Hint......the ball players will have theirs on bill forward.

I am amazed that a few of you are ok with kids wearing straight billed hats....
And here I thought none of y'all had any sense.
