They can go/hunt/be involved, etc without carrying. Mine are 6 and 11 and my 11yo killed his first at 9. We've solved a lot of the worlds problems sitting on greenfields in the afternoons with them having kindles, iPhones and iPads in hand. Make it fun, tell a bunch of stories and run a bunch of teaching scenarios and the "killing" opportunities will present themselves.
