I own a 2010 F250 with the 6.4L with 92k miles. Haven't had a bit of trouble out of it.
With the oversized tires I get 17.5 mpg whether loaded or not.
Rides like a half ton truck when unloaded, rides like a Cadillac when loaded.
This is my first diesel but have owned other brands of trucks including other Fords. Just have always had good luck with the Ford. I think you get more for your money also.
From what I have heard, if you can find one with the 7.3L that is the way to go. Had a friend of mine buy one, put 10K more miles on it and a guy offered him more than he paid for it. What are considering loaded, like how many lbs? I like all three of em, and I like a good deal better. I have not come close to the towing capacity but the largest load was an 8x16 car hauler full of rock for a driveway. I am sure it exceeded the weight for the trailer. I am guessing 9k. We bought it with the intentions of buying a 5th wheel. Wife and daughter decided they wanted a pool instead so it is my toy now. Well it will tote about anything you can hook to it. But it just won't do the 17 mpg. I don't know why I thought you were referring to my ride quality comment. Duh. As far as mpg's I regularly tow a 21' ski boat and a pair of ATV's on my car hauler. I would not suggest or think I would get those kind of mpg's hauling anything with serious weight. I would love to have a new one, but can't pay that kind of money. Just aint got it in me, so the old 90 and 99 7.3s will have to keep on keeping on.

I you don't need a diesel don't buy it. Fuel is too dang expensive. I have a cummins but I hate paying close to $4.00 at the pump, and its used for work. Be glad when I don't need a heavy truck anymore...just hate paying diesel prices. Im going to the Tundra Crew 4x4 on the next truck. This I agree, also looking at around $55.00 and up for oil change. Just for the record, I had a 03 GMC 2500 with the 6.0 gas burner, and that thing would and still will hand with any diesel I had. My buddy still has it, just rolled over 300,000 with the original transmission. Regret selling that truck.

I only use it to haul equipment. 10,000lb equipment locally. In 4 years I have less than 15,000 miles on it but have been very satisfied. Couldn't justify the cost of a desiel.

Had an 03 duramax up until a year ago. Best truck I ever owned. Thing got close to 20 mpg running the bully dog programmer. Only problem I ever had was a recall on the injectors and they were fixed under warranty. The truck would pull anything you put behind it and it would fly. Dad had 06 F250 and was the worst truck I have ever seen he replaced the head gasket 4 times under warranty and twice out of warrant he couldn't even get rid of the damn thing. That truck ruined me of ever owning a Ford.
Hope you don't ever have one bad experience with a blonde or a redhead.. Haha her name was magic just ask yekrut!

I may just be ignorant, but I do not believe that any automatic trans. will last as long as a manual (as long as the driver knows how to drive and manual). Not ignorance its a well known fact. Whether its a little 4cylinder car or a HD truck a properly driven standard will always outlast an auto, usually X2. We pay a price for the convenience of not shifting in performance numbers and at the tranny shop.

Cummins or a 7.3 powerstroke Find you a old 7.3. They have very little emmisions and are almost bulletproof it they have been well maintained.

1999 supercab 4x4 auto lariat edition 7.3. 217k miles,1 waterpump,2 alternators,3sets of batteries, normal brake maintenance and replacemen tabout 4k on set of nitto terragrapplers. Just your normal maintenance. Going to put new glowplugs, rebuild intectors, glowplug relay, new valve covers, fuel filter, and fresh oilchange coming up next month. Just got thru a few months ago with differential oil changes, and tranny/transfer case oil change due this winter. All in all just normal diesel maintenance.
