I must be a tight wad because there is no way I'm paying $8.50 a shell for Nitros. I saw a kid pay $19.00 for 2 today. I can kill just as many turkeys with the cheapest shell on the market as anyone can with those over priced shells. A dead bird could give a rats butt about how good a pattern looks. Dead is dead. Just my 2 cents.

But can you shoot that bird at 50-60 yds ?

anyone who thinks the cheapest shells on the market will kill turkeys as good as Nitros is pissing in the wind and they know it.

Just admit yer a tightwad and stop there. Your cheap shells will NOT kill as good or as far as Nitros will. Period. End of story.

And Winchester Supremes won't do it as good either. I've killed dozens of birds with Supremes and will probably kill more with em. But they ain't as good as Nitros at any range.

I betting neither of you has ever actually shot a bird with Nitros???

I've shot birds with just about every shell ever made and Nitros are simply the best killer out there today. Nitro shot birds don't even flop, just fall dead. Like a sack of taters dead.

Nothing wrong with being a tightwad.

And cheap shells will kill turkeys.

But Nitros rule.....

Perch, I don't shoot birds at 50-60 yards either, but Nitros will still kill better at 30-40 yards than any cheap shell. Proved it myself on real birds, not paper.

Yep, too expensive for me and technically the 4X5X7s are illegal in AL - there are a good many shot in there larger than #2s. And yes I have killed a turkey once with them and they are deadly. For some reason they shot a good bit lower in my SBE than conventional shells.

x2 what Bhamfred said.

I love it when people talk about how they are to expensive for them and they would never buy them. I also remember 8-10 years ago when I started shooting them and was the only one for the most part around a couple of the forums I was on shooting them and everyone was against them then. A ton of those nay sayers are shooting them now and feel the same way. Most people that shoot them once are a believer from then on. How many times are these "they are to expensive" people shooting each year? Most of them aren't shooting more than 3 or 4 times tops a year I would bet and are worried about an extra $20 added to turkey season. They are not the folks who travel to 10 states and shoot 30 times a year. If you were duck hunting with them it would be one thing, but if it is that expensive don't buy one case of beer and you have made up for the cost of what you would have shot in one years time. I will gladly keep paying 3 or 4 dollars more for every bird I kill than the "they are to expensive" crowd as long as every bird I pull the trigger they continue to drop and flop.

To each his own. I went 5 for 5 last year with a 10 box of Win red hull 3" #4s I bought a Wally world for less than $10 then took my nephew and he went 3 for 4 (clean miss was his fault). Eight birds for less than $10 is cheap! grin

I used to be one of them but when I'm proved wrong I will admit it. And I was wrong, LOL! If you plan on calling every bird you hunt to 30 yards and are content to leave the woods without him if you can't get him that close, then great. You can shoot most any factory lead shot shell and you are good to go. But, lead shot will not pattern like Nitros or kill turkeys at the ranges Nitro's will.

I shot one gobbler at 40 yards that had his left side turned to me. It clobbered him but even more impressive is that when I got him home and cleaned him I discovered that some of the pellets from the lowest part of the pattern had hit him in the upper left breast area. Those pellets had gone through his left wing, through the feathers on his left breast, through the meat of his left breast, through his breast plate, and were half way through the meat of his right breast. And that was at 40 yards. With body penetration like that you can rest assured his head or neck cannot survive even at 50 yards. And I have never seen turkeys just hit the ground and lay still like they do with Nitros.

Patterns? Forget about it. The patterns I get with Nitros are actually atypically bad compared to what most people get and yet they are still so hell and gone better than anything I ever got with lead it isn't even funny. I get about 230 pellets inside a 10 inch circle at 40 yards and still over 100 at 50 yards.

I can shoot a turkey at 50 yards and it's not a poke and hope type deal. It's not a "good chance" I'll kill him. If I hold true, he's dead. Yep, I'll pay more for that. A lot more. And like somebody else said we aren't on a duck hunt here. If I limit out on turkeys in Alabama that's 5 shells. Five Nitros still cost less than a tank of gas. In fact if I had just went and bought a Rhino choke and a box of 25 Nitros 5 years ago I would have saved hundreds of dollars in the choke/shell combos I went through searching for good patterns.

TSS are to expensive for me and don't shoot good. I saw a kid pay $9 each for them the other day. I can use my 7/8 oz 7.5 dove loads and kill them just fine out to 13 yards. laugh laugh

I didn't think $$ mattered on turkey shells. Never shot TSS so I can't comment but I hear they are superior to Nitros.

It doesn't! You must have missed the laugh laugh I put on the end. The TSS and Nitros are about the same price to buy/load. I was just poking fun at you and a couple other people who are always complaining about the prices of a shell they don't even shoot.

I guess I did miss it. I boycott on principle. No one can tell me they can't sell 'em for what everyone else sells theirs. They may shoot like gold but those pellets aren't made of it.
